Just want to put out a warning ..I had a call that I had missed and the message said I am in good standing with my credit card and I could have my interest rate reduced. They did not leave a number so I called my visa to aquire this reduction and they said it was good I hadn't answered that call .
It's a scam.
Somehow they get you to confirm your numbers then they run with your money .
Be wary and hang up no matter how good it sounds and call yourself to your credit company to see if it's real.

These banks are sick. Each month I must get about 5 to 10 offers to sign up for new credit card accounts, some of them pre-approved. My credit is certainly less than perfect.

I'm talking about the insurance you pay extra for on your credit cards so they would supposedly be paid off for you in the event of your death. I have a friend whose 75 yr. old mother is dying very soon of terminal cancer. I'm wondering if he just sent in the death certificate to the credit company, would this be enough to get them off his back. She has no other family except for his son, and he can't afford to pay her left over bills. His name's not on her credit card accounts.

Once you have a deletion letter or pay off letter can you get in contact with the credit bureaus and have them erased it or is that something I have to take on with the collector to do so??? And if I don't get a letter of deletion should I even pay it back if it's still gonna be there anyway??

I don't think it was the credit card debt collector's place or position to tell my former foster mom how much debt I owe. I'm a grown woman with a college degree, & the foster mom has nothing to do with my finances. & then she used it against me & threw it in my face & made me feel bad. I fell into debt as a result of Hurricane Katrina & had trouble getting out, ever since. & then, the foster mom tried to tell me I need to learn how to manage my money. I already do. I just have an unfortunate situation that I'm dealing with right now.

I have a few unpaid medical bills and also a $550 power bill that I never paid. I was told I could contact them and ask them to lower how much I owe. Any advice on the best way to do this? Also, I visited my power company one day to inquire about the unpaid balance and the lady told me that I didnt owe them any money, but after ordering a copy of my credit report it is still showing there. I know i didn't pay the bill but when i attempted to I was told there was nothing to pay. What should I do?

How about opening too many credit cards? Does store credit cards (Macys etc.) help your credit history?

One of my credit cards sent me a letter stating that due to "inactivity", the account was going to be closed. Period. No opportunity to re-initiate account use or anything. Its being closed and nothing can be done about it. Problems:

1) can't find jack about this in the account terms and conditions,
2) can't even get access to account terms and conditions on account's website,
3) the closing of the account will damage my credit score, and
4) the closing of the account will deprive me of the available credit in the account.

3) and 4) are clearly injurious to me as a Consumer, through no fault or action of my own. The account is in good standing, zero balance, with no late payments ever made, and is about 6 years old.

How the F&^% is this legal?!

I have a credit card debt due to fraud that dates back 12 years. Is it easier at this point to just tell the company I'm not paying due to statute of limitations? Proving that it wasn't me due to the length of time would be very difficult if not impossible. I already told them about the fraud and they have'nt gotten back to me.
If I do handle it this way, do I have to worry about it staying on my report? Is there any way to deal with that? Should I negotiate with them? (they already offered to cut the debt in half if I paid it by form letter). But the idea of eating someone else's debt from a crime against me is infuriating!

After some rough financial times, I defaulted on the card and it went to a collection agency. I made payments automatically for a while then they offered a settlement. I couldn't afford to settle. They stopped taking the payments out of my bank account, now another company called to tell me they're going to sue unless I settle. I want to know if I have any rights.

I had a CC and it was turned over to Alliance One collections. I did some research on the company and found a site called RipOff.com and there were many people who have been treated disrespectfully and have complained about how this company treats consumers. Is there anyway once its been turned over to call your cc company and make payments to them or see if they use any other collectors? After reading what others have gone through, I really don't want to deal with Alliance One in getting my debt paid.

Hello, My parents are in a HUGE amount of debt. They have large amounts of loans and a mortgage payment every month. Although we live comfortably and my parents are able to make monthly payments right now since they have good paying jobs. My question is, what happens when they are no longer able to pay off their accounts if God forbid something were to happen or when they get elder? Who becomes responsible for their debts? Would it be me and my brother?
