Yes especially if it was one in god standing, it changes your credit to debt ratio, in other words lowers it which lowers your credit score

Closing an unused credit card account will almost certainly not help your credit score, and might very well hurt it. The two big dangers are 1. your remaining credit card debt becomes a greater percentage of your total credit limit and 2. You shorten your credit history by closing accounts you've held the longest.

It can, but amazingly enough it can have a negative impact or a positive one. It depends on what other things are left.
