I have credit cards with two different banks, I checked my credit score before applying with the second one and was good. My legal name has two last names (I wasn't born in the US), my first bank uses my complete name, first name and two last names as in my social security card, but the second bank decided to delete my second last name, . Also they took my office address and used it as residential address even when I told them not to do so. I'm trying to increase my credit score even more to buy an expensive car at the end of the year. Does this dual name/address affect my report (and score)? Should I change my information with the second bank? Or only the social security number is considering while preparing the credit reports?

My adult daughter hasn't lived with us for more than 10 years, and whatever bill they are calling about has to be at LEAST that old. I tell them she hasn't lived here in 10 years and because I won't tell them where she is NOW they call and harrass me constantly. They are nasty and rude and insulting. How do these bill collectors try to collect on a debt that is more than 10 years old anyway? Is there something you can do to make them stop calling you if someone TRULY doesnt live at your address any more? By the way I live in Massachusetts if that is relevant.

I have credit card debt and the consolidation places don't sound good to me. What would happen if I decided not to pay them anymore? What if I choose to pay off one at a time. Can my wages get garnished? Can they take me to court? Bankruptcy is not an option for me I only have about $5000. Please advise!

My business (which is an S-Corp) will be closing it's doors. We have taken a huge hit over the past year and a half and are not able to keep the business open. I am the presdient of the business and am now broke, destitute and am currently in the midst of a bankruptcy...and need legal advice. When we close the business who is responsible for the debt? There is nearly 500,000.00 worth of debt -- and approximately 80,000.00 are unpaid taxes (I thought they were being paid, but now know differently) One of the owners is trying desperately to bail on the business, turn it's shares back and wants to be excluded from his 1/3 ordership of the company as well as all of it's debt. Anyone have a answer for me?

I signed a one-year contract for cell phone service. I had the service and discontinued it after fulfilling my commitment. Now they are trying to charge me $175 fee for early cancellation and say it was a two-year contract. I asked them to provide the contract I signed, they refused and it is in collections now. I told the collections agency the same thing and they said the cell company doesn't have to provide anything and that they would report the debt to credit agency if I didn't pay. I told them I would not pay the debt because I did not agree to a two-year contract as they claim. They call me at least four times each day and I am not willing to pay this bogus debt. I have told them I will pay the debt in full the moment I have the contract in my hands so I can see that I am wrong.

If I request to see the contract that binded me to pay this early cancellation fee, do they have to provide it? How can I get the agency to stop calling?

When a customer purchases something with a credit card like Mastercard or VISA why do retailers record it as cash sales?

I've had the card since '03 and I admit that I've been a little careless with it in the past, but I've managed to bring my balance of $5,000 down to $1,900. I almost always pay over the minimum amount required per month and I hardly ever use the card anymore. I haven't had late fees in a couple of years.

I'm a little worried because I know having good credit is everything nowadays and I'm hoping to put a down payment on a car soon. I don't want any problems so I'm trying to pay it off ASAP. Is this an unreasonable amount to have?

I have a credit card account that was charged off. I tried to work with the CC company, but they would not help me. It is with a collection agency now. I have sent them a validation letter (my 30 days is not up). I spoke with a man from the agency and told him that I mailed a validation letter when he called me. I told him if they could verify the debt, What my options were. He refused any payment plan. He said the only thing I could do was pay a lump sum to settle or they would serve papers on me. I told him if I had the lump sum, I would not be in this situation to begin with.
If it goes as far as them trying to get a judgement on me, can they take a lien on my house or levy my check account? The CC is in my name only. My house is in my husband's name (loan) both of us are on the deed. The checking account is joint. are in NC.
Is my next step to just wait on the verification from them.

I have a tax lien on my credit reports - again - some 12 years after CA put it on, even though I didn't owe taxes (OK, I filed late without an extension...my fault...).

I have had it removed three times over the years, but checked my Credit report not long ago and there it was again.

Each time I've needed to send in the proof document from the state (they've provided it to me back in 1995) and send it to the three credit bureaus...and it will come off for a bit, but ends up back on again - screwing up my credit scores.

Is there a reliable way to keep this from continuing to happen? Does anyone know? Anyone every cracked to code on the California Franchise tax board's reporting mess?

Thanks.

Steve in Seattle.

I currently have 3 credit cards. I just got approved for another and it is in the mail on it's way. I paid off the one with the lowest credit limit, and was thinking about cancelling it and just keeping the other three.

I have been working on building my credit for a long time, and it has been very difficult. Will cancelling this card hurt my score? Or will having too much available credit hurt it? Which is worse? What should I do to keep working on getting my credit score higher?
