You may end up being declined for going over your credit limit or it may go through and you'd get hit with the over-the-limit-fee (my card doesn't have this, but it's rare). The wiser thing to do would be to split the purchase over two cards or to pay cash and put the balance on the card. It's BAD to max out cards, even if you pay them off because your highest use of the card is listed on your credit report.

No. Each card has it's limits. Credit cards too. Debit cards as well. If you have a credit card, and want the limit raised, you can call the credit card company and ask them if they would do that for you. They may say yes-if you have been making payments like you should, on time and all, or if you haven't they could very easily say no on raising the limit.

In most cases, yes, it will go through.
However, they'll start charging you over-limit fees immediately and they'll charge them every pay period (sometimes as much as twice a month) for as long as you're over your limit. That's in addition to the interest they'll charge. And if you're over your limit, you're also likely to get into the "default" status that will increase your interest rates on ALL your cards.

You might be able to, but you may have to pay over the limit fees.
First, call the credit card company to see if they can increase your credit limit.

If you need to do this, it's time to cut the card in half and pay it off.
