I used to work at a coffee place called Peets a while ago. So I don't think it would be too hard for me to learn stuff at Starbucks. But..any Starbucks workers here-is it fuN? I'm moving into a one-bedroom apartment, so my current rent is going to double, which is why I need a job working some nights and some weekends!! Egats!

So I got hired to drive a sales route for a food and beverage company. Basically I deliver and stock the stuff. I like the job so far, but I've trained for 2 weeks and I have 3 more to go. Spending 9 hours a day in a car with a trainer is annoying. The guy is a cool dude, but after a while you run out of things to say. I just wish training was over so I could be free again. The reason I picked a driving career was to get away from co-workers and bosses in the first place. Plus, I always get uptight when I first start a job. Arrrrr. Do you guys hate training as much as I do?

I've been thinking, ever since I left High School over 10 years ago, I did nothing but work in shops. As the years passed, I grew to hate retail work very much & found a new career in cleaning. I'm proud to say that nowadays, I am a much happier & healthier person ever since taking up 2 part-time cleaning jobs as I really enjoy them & earn a heck of a lot more money than I ever did in retail.

So, my own personal experience has led me to ask what I would consider two very important questions.

1: As long as you're happy, healthy & are earning good money, does it REALLY matter what you do for a living?

2: Are too many people too fussy nowadays about their choice of careers?

its there any job that fits this description or comes close to it??? i am 21, male, i attend a very prestigious university in U.S (ivy league school), my GPA is stellar, i would say people describe me as intelligent, inquisitive, friendly, cautious, i enjoy working with others although i prefer working alone sometimes, i can keep secrets, i can control/hide/ or hold back my emotions, i like to be around people, i like to travel, see different places meet different people, i also prefer a job paying decent money (more than 80K starting or after 1-2 yrs work expericen), i can control my stress level, i always work hard towards a goal and get the job done, wheter it be sacrificing time, friends, or leisure activity, i like math and science, i love physical activity and would rather go out and do something rather than stay put to an office desk

How much can I get in unemployment in California. I have a descent amount of money. six figures and still live at home as I was saving money to by my own place. Should I buy a business? I have worked for this company for the past 4 years i am the first employee that was hired by management since they opened a branch on the west coast basically i ran the office & yard when the manager & vice president were not in once we were big enough & had more business more employees were hired & it was always known that i was the office supervisor even though i never officially had the title. in Jan a new girl was hired i knew something was going to happen this girl is more knowledgeable of the business our company merged with another company last Dec and the merger was just recently finalized. On my last review my official position was dispatcher/supervisor now with the merger new corporate has done a lot of changing around this new girl is now the supervisor but nobody has been officially informed yet i still have all the responsibilities that go along with that position but no one has informedme that i am no longer a supervisor . Please advise on how i should handle this

LPN first or straight to RN?
I am back in school, finishing my pre-req's for nursing. I won't start actual nursing classes and clinicals until the end of August.
I'm trying to make up my mind - right now I work in an office (but it's a LTC pharmacy so it's still somewhat in the medical profession) and want out of the office environment ASAP, so I was thinking about quickly becoming an LPN and then getting a job in LTC or Hospice and going back for RN, ADN then BSN.
Would this be a mistake?? Should I just tough it out another few years for RN and THEN get a nursing job?
I have mixed thoughts and am looking for feedback. Thanks!

I used to work as a dental assistant, but now that I'm 40 I don't want to do that type of work anymore. I worked a couple years ago in a manufacturer warehouse assembling electrical lighting ballasts, lights, etc. I was getting paid $13 per hr.
I stopped working there so that I could start my own cleaning company, but I really hated cleaning, and so a year later I applied back at that same lighting manufacturer, but now they hired me and are only paying me $10 per hour.

That is only $2 above minimum wage!!!

They expect hard work for only $10 per hour? I used to have fun jobs when I was young that paid mimimum wage, so how come now I can only find hard working jobs that require skills to only make $2 more than minimum wage?

I live in Washington State, and the cost of living here is outrageous!

Is it because all the Mexicans & Chinese are taking the jobs? Making it an "Employer's Market"? I'm pissed I have good skills but the pay is just above minimum wage!

Oh and I past the drug tests they just hire someone else instead

The reason for termination that they stated was because I put on my time sheet 12pm on 8/29 and I called in sick on 9/14 but did not indicate sick time. On 8/29 I was at work at 8am and left at 10:30 for lunch and came back at 12. The boss called me and told me to put 12 on my time sheet, so I did. I never put in i am there at 8 everyday because the company doesn't pay overtime, and I want to avoid traffic in the mornings so i just get there early. on 8/30 he came in and we had a verbal discussion about coming in 30 minutes late and i apologized and said it wouldn't happen again which it didnt. on 9/14 i called in sick but did not indicate on sick time because time sheet was turned in on 9/12 for that pay period (9/01-9/15). i had sick time accrued so i dont know why they wouldn't adjust the time sheet for sick time on that day. i dont know if my pregnancy had to do with any of this but do these reasons seem right for terminating my employment?

Before I get into my rant: would it be appropriate for me to write to professionals who have climbed the corporate ladder and ask for advice?

I asked my former college's career center, and I was turned away because I am no longer a student. Makes me proud to be an alum.

After a year of being a college grad and about 4 months of avid job searching, I've decided that I need to rethink my strategy.

When I graduated school, I thought I would just dive into nonprofit work with promotions and fundraising. Turns up that nonprofit work is tough to get into.

Now I've noticed that I'm deflated, even when I get a job offer, because I feel that I'm not going to get the job. In the end I am the one that dooms myself. And I hate that.

As a result, I feel like I need a new drive. For such a long time I was just kind, sweet me who just blew through life taking whatever life threw at her. Well now I'm ready to take control.

I have a huge superiority complex. I work for a leading IT company and most people who work with or for me do not meet my standards. I constantly feel that they are lazy, uncommitted and whiling away their time. As I a result I get confrontational. There have been many instances where I have humiliated them in front of other people and they were brought to tears.

Although I have been very successful I've not made any friends with this approach. Even my bosses who respect me for my work ethic hate my guts. I don't have any friends where I work and this is causing a lot of problems - I end up firing people and their work falls on my shoulders. So I end up living inmy office most of the time. I work 80-90 hours every week for the last 3-4 months. How should I change? I've tried not making a big issue out of the low quality and productivity but then it becomes worse and I have to respond in a harsher way. Is there a way out? Should I switch careers to one with no people interaction?

? Ive heard a few horror stories of attorneys coming out of very good schools yet ending up with a starting salary less than 40k a yr. How does this happen is it the job market? or is it the persons lack of good qualifications? Wat does one have to do to start off with a decent salary 80k plus and eventually have a solid career as an attorney in a private practice?

i have two part time jobs.
i want to ask for fewer hours in one of them. but i think my boss is not going to accept that and might fire me (i heard he does that usually).
does that mean i still can file unemployment and get money for that even though i still have another part time job?
