Just got fired !!!! Please help!?
I just got fired today. Boss was very nice to me then found out I wanted to be a lawyer. I had been there since June and she found I was taking LSAT Prep Classes. She put me on probation and attempted to drive me out of the office. Was on probation. Probation expired then today at the end of the day called me into her office and fired me. I had done a descent job. The company had countless errors with its work product it was insurance company. Can I collect unemployment? Can I sue? I am only a year and half out of college, this is my second Job. The first I stayed for about year. Law school or other graduate school would be a year away. How much can I get in unemployment in California. I have a descent amount of money. six figures and still live at home as I was saving money to by my own place. Should I buy a business? How much down payment would I need? Thanks for all your help!

Doubt you can sue unless it was for some type of discrimination or sexual harrassment but even these are a long shot unless it's pretty blatant but probably can get unemployment. Got to your local unemployemnt office mon. and also start looking for a job because it's rarely enough money for most people. Try to be positive and don't say anything bad about the former co. either to them or when you interview/apply for new jobs as this will make it harder to get another job. Just say something like "it wasn't a good fit". Would avoid buying a business until you get some more experience under our belt, these usually are in the red for the first yr. and often fail. if you were fired, you cannot collect unemployment. At least that is how it is where I live.
And as far as suing, you would have to prove something. A company cannot place you on probation for wanting to pursue an education. So, look at why you were placed on probation and go from there. Also look at the reason you did not make it on probation. There has to be documentation, and I'm almost certain these things were explained to you before you were fired.

Unless you are leaving something out, you should not have been put on probation for trying to get an education as long as it was not on company time. Depending on where you live you can file for unemployment. If the reason you tell them that you left your last job was because you were fired, they will investigate the matter. You may still receive unemployment it just takes longer. As far as looking into buying a business, there are a lot of opportunities out there you just have to be cautious. Don't always look for the easy way out. GO GET ANOTHER JOB!! If I had six figures sitting in the bank I wouldn't want to work either. That's probably why you weren't the best employee to have around. Find something you enjoy, if you want to be a lawyer, find a job in a law office doing peon work while you are going through school, hey you can afford it!! Get your name out there, but don't ever think anything is beneath you because we all have to start somewhere. And don't buy a business!! You need a bad investment like you need another hole in the head! don't do it!

You can probably collect unemployment, unless you got fired for misconduct - if you were put on probation, sounds like their issue (right or wrongly) was performance, not some kind of blatant misconduct.

They have the right to fire you, so no you can't sue. It's called "employment at will".

The guy who started walmart used to work in Kmart and got fired. He went next door and opened up another door useing the expertise he learned at Kemart. Well the rest is history. He alsmost put kmart out of business too.

You don't need another job. You need to become an entrepreneur. Be your own boss, set your own hours.

I have a job offer for next year but I don't want to talk it because I want to be my own boss. That's why I have been involved in businesses that hopefully I will be making enough money in 9 months time where I can do medicine for free and on my own terms.
