I'm not an expert in this, but I can tell that you at least need to rewrite the resume. They don't want facts, they want goals and personality. They want to hear what you like about THEIR company specifically, and why you want to work there and not another company.

You have to research each company a bit and find something unique about it to add to your resume - what can you give to them that no one else can give? Answer that question in your resume, don't just give them your school report.

What was your major at SF State? Your GPA? Did you get a BA or a BS? If you didn't complete a degree, you should list education at the bottom, since you should highlight the most relevant information at the top.

You also don't need relevant coursework unless it is actually relevant to the job you are applying to. For instance, you don't need to list Theater Set Design unless you are applying for a job that involves set design. Most of those sound like GE classes, and if you are applying to retail you don't need any of those courses listed.

You should find a resume writing guide to help you. SF State probably has one available at their career center, for alumni. For instance, instead of saying "Assisted..." you should use more direct wording like "Organized products to insure greatest..."

Your objective should focus on what you want to do. New and rewarding doesn't describe what kind of job you are looking for. If you are applying to a specific job, your objective can even be "Assistant mall manager" or whatever job you are applying to.

Also, to make your resume more polished and grammatically correct, make sure all of your verbs are in the same tense. Instead of "assist," "researched," and "insuring," you should make them all past tense (assisted, researched, insured, etc.) Most employers want someone with skill in using the English language, so try as hard as you can to be consistent.

And instead of "insuring," unless you were setting up insurance policies, you should say "ensuring."

I agree that the resume needs improvement. It is satisfactory, and will suffice, but satisfactory will not get you the job. You want your resume to stand out, make it the cream of the crop.

You want the person who is doing the hiring to look at your resume and immediately think "We need to get this person working for us"

As it is right now, your resume doesn't instill that thought. It's just another resume.

There are a few things that you can do.

These sites will provide excellent advice on developing a better resume and give you valuable suggestions to use during the interview process:

Once you get your resume perfected, you could post it on these sites:

http://www.monster.com/

http://careerbuilder.com

http://www.careerjournal.com/

http://www.jobbankusa.com/

And you can search this site for jobs:

Improve your resume, post it at the above sites, and search the remainder of those sites. I'm certain you'll find the exact job you are looking for.

Good Luck!

Your OBJECTIVE is fuzzy and nondescript.

Your RELEVANT COURSEWORK is relevant to what?

Your EXPERIENCE at F.Y.E. is retail and merchandising experience! Nothing more!

Explain what you're looking for and in what field. It looks like music to me but you need to be much more specific in what you're looking for in the industry. What did you do between 2000 and 2002? Fill in that gap! If you're looking for a record label to work for then that's where you should be sending your resume. You should have this done professionally as well.

Looks like you are stuck in retail sales, management, etc. If you don't want retail again, you may need to go back to school for some other course, e.g. nurse's aide, technician, etc.

Add this new course to your resume to show the employers that you desire to change course and do something different. That won't be too much to ask if you desire to change your career path.
