So I got hired to drive a sales route for a food and beverage company. Basically I deliver and stock the stuff. I like the job so far, but I've trained for 2 weeks and I have 3 more to go. Spending 9 hours a day in a car with a trainer is annoying. The guy is a cool dude, but after a while you run out of things to say. I just wish training was over so I could be free again. The reason I picked a driving career was to get away from co-workers and bosses in the first place. Plus, I always get uptight when I first start a job. Arrrrr. Do you guys hate training as much as I do?

Kate, geee, thanks for your kind words. If it makes you feel any better, I'm not a very talkative person.. especially around new people.
Angel =] , yeah it stinks. We have to learn how to use the handheld computers and a few other things before we're allowed to go out on our own. I'm kind of a quiet person, so that makes it even worse.

Eh, unfortunately. I have never really went through job training. Well kinda. But i was only doing it for 1 day. And then i was on my own for the rest. But If i was in your situation. Id be so annoyed. I wouldnt know what to do. I wouldnt be able to sit there with someone that long. Why so long of training? Geez. 5 weeks of training is insane. Goodluck with that!

I do the training where I work. Let me give you some insight and a few pointers, if I may. I have trained dozens of people and it ain't always a cakewalk on the trainer's end of it. Some people pick things up quickly and some are like training a rock. The ones that pick things up quickly and, more importantly, WANT to learn, are the most enjoyable to teach. I have spent weeks trying to teach something to some people that most people can pick up in a few days. I have banged my head against the wall trying to figure out how to get through to these certain few. Some don't ever "get it" and I've wasted my time and energy.
To be a "good" student is really not that hard. Just pay attention, be respectful, and ask questions; it really helps if you want to learn. Never tell your instructor that you "got it" if you really haven't. Just ask more questions. His/her job is to teach and answer questions. So ask. And ask again. Be patient with "pop quizzes"; this is how your instructor is gaging your progress and his/her own effectiveness as a teacher.
And finally, don't worry about "running out of things to say". If there is a lull in the conversation, turn on the radio (it's courteous to ask first), or read the newspaper if you're not driving. But remember, you are "in school", so pay attention when the instructor speaks again.
Really, you should change your attitude about training. Look at it for what it is: the opportunity to learn a new job and new skills and that's a good thing. Training is just a necessary evil. And who knows, you may be the one training somebody new someday. Peace...

That's a really long training period. Just think, if you are bored your trainer probably is too. Make the best of it and perhaps the trainer will be a new friend who will be helpful in your career in the company. Find something each day to just chit chat about - sports, weather, current events. If you cant talk to your trainer, what are you going to do when store personnel and customers approach you.

You can always find another career. I have seen a million of this newer generation who come out for one day and think they know everything. Noone is going to let you go out on your own and start screwing things up. Deal with it. You are lucky to have the job. In my job when I hear this I know what I'm doing theory I'll stand back and let them see just how hard it is if noone shows you. In my job they lose fingers or worse. You only have a few weeks of it so deal with it!!

Training in my jobs ran from 8 weeks to a year ,
But it was far more complex .
If you can't even hang for 5 weeks ,
You need to chill or get therapy or something .
5 weeks ain't shiiit .

Yes, training can suck. Especially when it seems you're stuck with a person like the one you're with! But hopefully you can hang in there until you're completed. Good luck!
