Today a friend of mine had to come into the city, so I decided to meet her for lunch. Well I was "caught" by my boss who was there to see a client. I was reprimanded and told not to make a habit of it!
For the record I never take lunch, although I am entitled to a 45 min. unpaid lunch per day. I work from 8:30-5:15 (often times later then that). I am paid a salary so no overtime for skipping lunch or working late. Most days I scarf down a sandwich or leftovers at my desk between phone calls or meetings.
So my question is, when did it become wrong to actually take a lunch break? My work was caught up, it was unpaid and it took no more then the 45 minutes. So how was i in the wrong?
I know the lunch break is becoming a working lunch, as most people I know eat lunch at their desks while they continue to work, but why should I get in trouble when I take an actual break once in a blue moon?

I filled out a job search form for driver/courier position with FedEx online, and they sent me an opportunity to come in and fill out an application and begin testing for their courier position.

What kinds of testing will they be doing? What kind of questions will they be asking? Is this an interview? Do I have to take a physical to work as a courier?

Should I dress way up for this training thing?

I have plenty of delivery experience as a pizza delivery guy for 9 years, so I hope that helps my cause.

Thanks for any info.

I've only worked at Washington Mutual for one week. I don't work this Friday and so far my 1st week on the job has been stressfull, successfull, and tiring.

Just a few minutes ago, I got a call from PG&E asking if I can work as a full-time auditor from 8-4 pm. I didn't know they would call anymore to schedule an interview with me because the hiring date expired last month. I was surprised that the manager called me for an interview.

I've never been put in a situation like this before. After my 1st full week working at Washington Mutual, I get a call from PG&E. I applied at PG&E before Washington Mutual and now I have to decide which job am I gonna choose.

I also have an afternoon part-time job at Mervyns and getting limited hours due to my morning schedule.

How do I tell my boss at Washington Mutual about my job interview at PG&E? How do I explain my morning job situation to the Mervyns management team?

I'm a pharmacist now, but I'm getting tired of working with the public. I'm not certain of what career I should choose, but I have an interest in computers and internet, and I love to work alone. Anyone with advice or tips?

When looking for a new job is it possible/legal to negotiate a larger contribution to my health insurance?

I was told by someone that in NY it is illegal for a company to contribute more than their standard contribution, and this is not a point of negotiation

Several former employees and I have been trying for over a year and a half (more in some cases) to get our 401K distributions to rollover into self-directed IRA or new employer 401K plans. The pension management company keeps saying that they are waiting for - first census data, and then now that they've received that, something else (they were not specific) from our former employer.

I've been in contact with the US Department of Labor, and they have contacted the former employer - who had indicated that they were taking care of the problem - and that we should have a distribution in 3 days - this was a month ago. Followup calls with DOL, they were going to try to contact the former employer.

Isn't there some agency that can force this to happen?
Since we are all 100% vested, can't we force our money to be released?
Can't they face big fines for this?
Finally, if we file a lawsuit, can we file for punitive damages?

It is my first year in college and i'm still deciding what to take. Its either Licence Vocational Nurse, Physical Therapy Assistant, and Radiologist.
I kind of like to take LVN because many people told me that it's on demand and the pay is high. but schooling takes a while even if its only a two year program. like CNA+2yr pre reqs for me. I can't wait that long and I heard it's stressful when you become a full time in school.
I kind of liked PTA also because it is also a 2 year program. but I heard they are not on demand and it is hard to find a stable job.
I also liked radiologist. I heard that they do more hands on and have a good pay. I am interested in doing xrays and stuff as what i have heard.
What do you think is a good career that pays quite good enough and less stressful?? and also less school work?

However the boss has agreed to give me a positive job reference and he wished me luck in all my future endeavors.

I am fresh out of college as of 6 months ago. I am relocating from the central Illinois area to the suburbs of Chicago. The job oppurtunities are "very good" in the field I am in.

What should I say at my job interview when they start asking me why did I leave my last job? Should I say I got layed off, or should I say that I decided to relocate? I think I have some wiggle room with what I can say at my job interview. What do you guys think?

This might seem like a weird question. LOL
but if you've ever filled out an application by hand, you might have seen those boxes that asks you to put down what hours
monday-sunday you can work?
Well i have always wondered what u put down if you don't have a prefernce, (meaning you are available anytime)
Do you put down from when the store opens to when they close, lol.. or what??
Please any help on this would be a HUGE help for me!

I just dislocated my shoulder, my arm feels ok enough for me to not have to wear it all the time, but it still hurts if I go more then 3 hours without my brace. Should I wear my shoulder brace to the interview or do you think it will hurt my chances of getting hired?

I have a job interview today at Subway and it will be my first interview ever so I'm kind of nervous. Anyways, I know that they might ask me what my good and bad qualities are. I don't want to give an actual bad quality, but rather something that can be seen as a positive, for example, saying that I'm a perfectionist. Can anyone think of anything else like this? A "bad" quality that can be beneficial at a job? Thanks!

I've been applying and applying to several job openings and have gotten NO Responses - not even a "no thanks" letter or email or phone call.
Is it a good idea to have someone you know call your past jobs - act like a new employer - and find out what they are saying about you?
I know there are services for this - but they want $60 per call.
And right now without a job - I can't afford that.
And if you do that - what do you do about a past employer who doesn't really tell the truth?

Ok, I've been working in a daycare center, but only for 4 weeks. My co-workers started to take advantage of me (chore-wise), and have slightly eased up. But the main problem is that there is no communication between me and my boss/teachers. They only tell me what to do if I'm doing something wrong. I don't even know if I'm working part-time or full-time! (Believe me, I'll get that answer tomorrow!) But all in all, it comes down to the communication issues, the $5.50 p/h pay, and co-workers bullying me. I'm wanting to quit the second week in December, and maybe start babysitting after New Year's. Problem is, I don't know how to bring the subject up. This is my first job, by the way. Please help! I'm so miserable!

When someone pays with a check... You have to write on the check. Don't you draw a plus sign sort of thing. But what do you write in the different quadrants? Isn't it expiration date, license number etc (and in which quadrant)?

Me and a coworker got into a heated argument and things were said. Now I'm put on suspension until corporate takes a look into the matter. I'm positive that with the circumstances I'll be let go.

Now, for future resumes what is some good advice that I can use to try to make it look acceptable? I've worked at the place for about six months and I do have to take responsibility for what happened with that event. How do I go about telling my potential employer about the situation without him automatically declining me? Should I spare some of the details, or just not elaborate on it so much?

As well right now I'm in the process of filling out applications with my suspension time. When it asks "Have you ever been terminated from a job" what should I put?

I got suspended today from my job for sending an email to a co-worker. The email simply stated that no one likes you why don't you quit. I sent that email on my own time from my own personal computer. The email recipient contacted Human Resources and Security and they investigated and dug deep to find me. They found me. Said it took her a week longer to find me due to my using a proxy server.

My question....How can I be suspended and possibly fired for such a email? An email that I did at home, my time, my computer. I just don't understand it. Nothing threatening or anything like that. No one likes this person. Please tell me what i should do at this point? I'm suspended until further investigation. I can't be on the property or anything. All of this for an email that read " No one likes you. Why don't you quit?" Please advise.

Hello
my boss promised me a salary raised but when it actually came to it this didnt happent and she said: "sorry I would like to help you but I can't". Now I know that the company has no problem and my salary raise is actually something what all other co-workers received. I am also one of the best in the job and received many times feed back from my boss telling me that I am very good in my job. I feel really bed about it and dont know what to do. Have for the moment no other job offer and my boss knows it. Should I quit anyway?
