Ok, I've been working in a daycare center, but only for 4 weeks. My co-workers started to take advantage of me (chore-wise), and have slightly eased up. But the main problem is that there is no communication between me and my boss/teachers. They only tell me what to do if I'm doing something wrong. I don't even know if I'm working part-time or full-time! (Believe me, I'll get that answer tomorrow!) But all in all, it comes down to the communication issues, the $5.50 p/h pay, and co-workers bullying me. I'm wanting to quit the second week in December, and maybe start babysitting after New Year's. Problem is, I don't know how to bring the subject up. This is my first job, by the way. Please help! I'm so miserable!

I think this is a difficult situation. You seem to be a nice person.

Here's what you do. The problem is not with the work. Its to do with the people and the culture. If you are not happy you won't be able to work well. So, it work negative for the empolyer and the employee (you).

This is what you should be speaking to your Boss. I presume the team there is seeing you as a newbie and do not show the respect you deserve.

You should fix a meeting. Walk up with your points and real reasons (remember, never point fingers). There is nothing personal here against anyone. Its just that you do not like the culture and hence want to quit.

If your boss is sensible, he will accept it, if not, he can go take a walk. You be confident that you want to quit. If you have a doubt, i guess you need to think it through.

All the best!

The only right way to do this is in writing.

Dear sir:

Please accept this letter as my letter of resignation. My last day will be . I would like to take this opportunity to thank my managers and colleagues for the experience.

Sincerely,
Your name here.

MAKE SURE, you do NOT put any gripes or complaints in your resignation letter. There is no need to let your boss know ahead of the time. Just hand it over two weeks before your intended "go" date. Also, do not say or hint anything bad about your job during the remainder of your stay there. You are leaving, so it doesn't matter.

Don't also tell where you are going or reason for your departure. A good generic answer is, "personal reasons." Anything else will lead to more problems.

By the way, "that sort of things" goes on at every job to some degree. If you want communication, you have to initiate it. There are also ways you can behave (positively) when someone starts to push their job to you. Let this be your experience to learn. But, be aware, this is something you'll have to learn how to manage on every job.

Nothing compares to your happiness. A happy worker is a productive worker. Ask your boss if you could talk to her/him in private. It should be easier to deal with with just him/her.

Tell him what a great facility they have but that you would be moving on. Give him two weeks notice. Why give him notice? Well, it's because your next employer would do a reference check and you don't want your current boss to say that you just absconded.

Don't throw a grenade on your way out.

You really don't have to give him any reason why u are leaving. Whatever you do, don't bad-mouth your collegues or the system. Remember that the little talk you'd have with your boss would also be your exit interview.

If you want to be impersonal about it, write him a 3 sentence letter and give him two weeks notice. Whatever you do, leave. It's just that how you exit now may set the tone for how you leave other jobs in the feature. Don't have separation anxiety, do what you have to do. What if they are the one that wants to fire you? Do you think they'll think this hard about it?

Good luck.
