I just got a call back for a job interview for friday Nov. 17th, I have to take 3 professional references. I have in mind a college prof, my supervisor from an internship I did, and my lawyer (whom I have not worked for but I'm being interviewed for a paralegal job). are they good pro references? How can I ask them through email for a reference b/c I don't have time to go to sit in their office and talk to them, etc. Can this be done through email? is it okay for me to ask them if I can use them AS a reference (name, phone, etc) or I have to take a letter they wrote on behalf of me....someone help me with this.

I'm currently employed at my first "real" job out of college and am looking for my next job. Since I've only been out of college for two years, how far back should I list my previous experience? Do I list organizations I was involved in during college (the organizations are relevant to my work field)?

Also, I currently have a weekend job working for an upscale retail store. It doesn't have anything to do with my field, but the store is related to one of my main hobbies. Should I list that position, even though it's only a part time weekend job? I was a part of the staff when we opened the store and it shows that I have team building skills (we literally gutted an entire shop and rebuilt it from scratch in a week).

I'm single and I have a full time job already, been there 17 years. I started this job about seven years ago. The first reason was money and next reason it kept me out of trouble. I now make more money and I believe I'm mature enough to stay out of trouble. I would like to arrive home in the evening and just relax, workout, enjoy a good movie etc. I only work a couple hours a night (monday through friday). I heard people say you should'nt quit it's easy money. I don't know what to do please send me your answers? I know it seems simple but I like wisdom before I make a decisions.

i started a new job and they are still yet to train me, they cant do it now because i am going on a vacay for 3 weeks so they will train me in dec. anyhow i have no problem getting to the job its just staying there the full 8 hours sucks. i constantly count the minutes going by and think of ways to get home early..Doesnt help that I am pregnant and feel like crap. Today there was just too much nausea so i left early and now that im home i feel bad for doing that, i also feel better and maybe if i had waited and stayed at work i would have been alright. What do I do? I need this job and it sucks that they are just throwing odd things at me and I am bored like crazy. Quitting it not an option. HELP

I work at a Christian bookstore... it's really nice. I get cheerful customers. It's a relatively nice job. I mainly work as a sales clerk. Just managing the stock, bible imprints, answering phone calls, taking orders, and etc. How about you?

I am employed and like where i work but basically i want to make more $$. (Don't we all? :) )

I currently have the opportunity to work at a different company for more money.

My question is how do i leverage this offer against my current employer? In other words, what steps/things/articles of support should I give to tell them another company is offering me more money but if they increase my current salary i will stay?

Thank you!

I was offered a job that I had been realy excited about. I began to second guess my abilities and desire for the job, then was offered the position. I said that I needed to think about it and they asked that I call back later in the day with my decision. When it was time to call I was not home an didn't have the number so I called 411 and asked for the person I needed to speak with and ended up on a blank voice mail twice. I left a message declininng the offer and moved on. It has now been a week and I do want the job. Can I take back my no? (that I don't even know if they got) I was thinking of going in person explaining and asking to be re considered. Should I or should I move on? ..... FYI I want the job but I do have another that I want more I just haven't been offerd yet but I need the work and the only offer I have I declined. HELP!!!

I work with clients (children with disabilties). I only get paid for the time I spend with clients, not for traveling or doing any paperwork.

About a week ago my employer asked me to redo 6 weeks worth of my paperwork, which I do not get paid for. I followed the directions that I was given, but my supervisor wants me to rewrite everything with some little changes (which were not in my original directions).

I have since given them my 2 weeks notice of leaving, although I may end up leaving earlier.

I do not want to waste about two hours redoing all my work because my supervisor did not give me any samples or her complete directions.

Can my employer withhold some of my pay if I do not redo my paperwork?
Can I be penalized for leaving early (tomorrow), even though my 2 weeks notice isn't up until next week?

I don't plan on ever listing this job on a resume because I held it for less than two months and because I do not trust that they would give me a good reference.

Is it possible to negotiate a "resignation by mutual consent" instead of getting fired by an employer - this could be because of any reason OTHER THAN misconduct. For example, if you are getting 2 consecutive performance warnings, is it better to negotiate a resignation rather than getting fired?

1) What is the advantage to the employer (if any), if I ask to resign gracefully - in other words, why should they let me do it instead of just firing me?

2) Any advantage to the employee?

I thought yall could help me sort all this stuff out. I have been recovering from a spinal injury and I have not worked for 5 years. I did #1 prior to my injury. I am looking to return to work and I’m looking for ideas/thoughts. I am 45 - I have a very artistic temperment (ENFP)

1) I have 15 years of work experience, but this area of work is now completely obsolete and there are no longer any jobs in this field anymore, it is completely dead/obsolete. Everyone has encouraged me to avoid this area.
2) I have a professional licence / credential in this area and about 3-4 years of part time experience. This is a promising area of work, but I don’t have a great deal of work experience in this area. The department of Vocational Rehabilitation is trying to encourage me to persue this career path. I think in some ways I am a good fit for this career, but in other ways I am not a good personality fit at all.

I love where I'm working right now, and my boss is the nicest guy, but they can't afford to employ me full time. Originally I decided to work there to go back to school, but that didn't work out like I wanted it to. I've accepted a job that pays nearly four times my other job. It's not something I enjoy as much... in fact it's pretty stressful... but I can't really turn down that kind of money. I had to start immediately so I can't go in to my old job. Normally I could care less, cause I'm just that kind of guy, but this guy has been so nice I feel like I'm the biggest scum of the earth for doing this and on such short notice. What do I do?!

Deciding on two certificate fields and one would be Pharmacy Tech. I noticed that some people are saying just apply at a pharmacy and they will train you. I would rather go to school (online) and get a certificate. Will this result in more pay and is it a plus when applying for a job? Gatlin Education is what comes up with my local Community College...is that a good curriculum?

Hi I'm up for a job with a new radio station and the "interview" was actually a dinner meeting that lasted about 3hrs and went very well.
I followed up the next day with a thank-you email, and he mentioned that it would likely be a few weeks until he was up to speed on the new station so if I didn't hear from him not to worry that he would be in touch.

Well it's been two weeks since our meeting and I'm getting a little anxious. Should I do a follow-up call to reiterate my interest and see if they might have a time line?

Thanks all!

I work at the library shelving books. I'm young, so I thought that I could still wear ripped jeans, but yesterday my boss came up to me and said that they started a dress code. She looked at me wearing my ripped jeans, old sneakers, and baggy sweatshirt and said "You would be able to wear those anymore." "And make sure your clothes look clean."
I felt so humiliated! I only work a few days a week, for two hours at a time, for minimum wage. Why is it any of their business what I wear? It made me cry, the way that she looked me up and down. What should I do? Ask for some money to buy more clothes, quit, or go with the flow? Help please!
