I have been working at my current job for 10 month now and have been transfered to another dept. I have just been made aware of online courses and tests that are required for me to be in my new position. They gave me a very short period of time to complete these courses and when their requirements were not met they asked me to either resign or be terminated. I also found out that these courses were supposed to have been done before I ever started the new position. I don't think they have been fair to me and are maybe even discriminating against me for some reason?

I am stuck in a hard position. My company just hired someone to work with me in my department. I was part of the interview process and agreed that it would be good to hire her. However, she has been on the job for almost 2 weeks now and I can tell that we've made a mistake. Her skills are not at all like what she said they were in the interview--she is barely computer literate. This job is a very fast-paced environment and while she said in her interview that she could handle it, I already have my doubts since she still can't do the most simple assignment. She is the second "bad hire" we've had in this position in the past 6 months.

I have the feeling that I should cut the strings now. But am I just not giving her a chance? What is the best way to handle this situation? I'm not "the boss," but my opinion is very loud and strong in this matter, so I could very well be making the call here.

I have been looking for an entry level position within my major for the past 2 months. I havent been able to and sort of just need a job. Yesterday I was offered a part-time teller job at a credit union. I told them I would get back in touch with them because I needed to think about it. Well I currently have something else on the horizon that might be a decent entry-level position and tomorrow I am going to take a test. If I do good on it they will set me up with an interview.

So I am in a dilemma, do I accept the teller job and pursue the other job, and if they offer the other job to me just quit the teller job after less than a month. Or do I wait and hope they don't fill the teller position and go take the test.

I just had an interview with OfficeMax about an hour ago. I think I did pretty well. The interviewer said that they would try to get me in for a second interview, that they would call me at the end of this week or the first of next week.

I wore a red and darker red striped shirt and khaki slacks with shiny shoes. I think it was a success. Was it? I mean, he could have said "We'll be calling you, or we'll be in touch". But he didn't. he gave me a time that he would call. Right?

Also, I don't know what to wear to the second interview -- should I wear a tie and dress shirt? or a different shirt with black slacks?

Thanks

I'm in the process of interviewing for a job, and I have a major interview scheduled for next week, which I have been really excited about. It is spread out over two days, and involves talking with a lot of different people, all of whom have obviously taken time out of their schedules to meet with me.

Now, here's the problem. One of my parents is dying, and it appears that the end is very near. We have been told by the medical people that it could happen at any time. Obviously, if it should happen, I cannot just go merrily off to an interview - I have to support the other parent.

So, should I let the search firm know this now? I hate to bring negatives to the table, especially since there is a chance that it won't interfere at all, yet I also don't want to find myself having to call the day of the interview to cancel, wasting all of these people's time. How should I handle it?

I am in the graphic arts field and had several part-time jobs in retail while I was in school full time. Retail or sales are obviously not my chosen career path and I feel these will not really fit in well. At the same time, I do not want an employer to see this as "lying on a resume." Should part-time work still be included?
