Should it even matter if they are willing to accept the pay?

A rocket scientist isn't going to stick around to flip burgers, so he's wasting the time of the person who hired him. He may have his reasons for applying for the job as a burger flipper, but it's obvious he's not gonna stick around for long... therefore, the manager has to go thru the hiring process all over again costing him time and money in the training process.

It can matter to the employer because the overqualified persons eventually feel they are wasting their time, want to advance, or leave the job as soon as they find a better one. There is a cost to hiring and replacing employees, so employers shy away from those who are overqualified.

I wouldn't hire someone that's going to get bored with the job or is just taking the job to make money while they are looking for a job they are qualified for. I look for someone who is going to stay with my company long term. So, yes it does matter.

Employers want to hire someone who will stay with the job, and if a person is overqualified, the usual thought is that they are only taking it until something more appropriate comes along.

Domino is correct. I was once denied employment. The manager feared that hiring me would seriously put her job in jeopardy. And, she was correct. Had I been her boss, I've have fired her in a heart beat.

if ur to qualified, u have somebodys eles rules in ur mind and are most likey not willing to follow the daft rules that the boss thinks is right.

yes they can and managers are reluctant to hire that person in fear they will be bored in the job. plus they probably also fear that they are after the hiring managers job.

And sometimes they just use that as an excuse because they think you are too old, but they can't say that because that would be discrimination.
