No, there is no state law in Alabama that requires paid leave for employees on maternity leave. If your company is eligible for FMLA and you meet the requirements you may be entitled to job protected leave, but it is unpaid.

You dont get paid when you are on maternity leave. Companies, depending on their policy, will pay you out all of your vacation and sick and personal time, but you don't get a paycheck when you are out on maternity leave. . The only things a company is required to do when you take leave (FMLA) is hold your job for you, the same or one similiar to yours while you are out. Thats if you come back in the time that you have for FMLA. They will send you a letter when your leave is going to be ending and let you know that unless you come back on that day then they cannot hold your job for you any longer.
Make sure you save up your vacation, sick and personal time if you get it or have it so you can get some money when you stop working.
Hope this helps.

I believe that under the Federal Family Leave Act, you are allowed 90 days of leave for medical or maternity issues. You have to apply in advance and receive written affirmation of the leave. BUT they are not required to pay you unless you have the benefits of sick leave and paid vacation time you can use.

I don't know about Alabama, but in Missouri, I only got paid maternity leave if I had the sick days to cover it. Otherwise it was unpaid, but I would have my job back at the end of the six weeks.
