The maximum taxable amount will rise to $97,500 in 2007. The Social Security tax rate is not automatically adjusted and remains 6.2 percent.
I'm currently under the max but if I start my new job prior to receiving my severence package will that trigger a notification to my current employer and cause issues as they'll need to make adjustments for it?
It's not illegal or wrong to be employed by 2 companies at the same time right?

I want to work someday at a VA Hospital or in a medical setting. But social workers don't really have to get hands-on like that with the patients the way a nurse would; however, I can't seem to think of a good job that is in line with the social worker career that I can work while I'm in college. Any ideas?

I've been working with my uncle in his company for 2 years now all legit on the payroll....

i do wet rooms and bathrooms/Tiling etc....

i started with him when i was 21 years old and i thought it would be nice for a change in carreir and i do enjoy it...

seeing that i knew nothing he said he would pay me £50 a day which is fair enough, tho the last few months i have been thinking, i've been doing some jobs on my own, i am good at tiling now... i want to ask him, if i could have a payrise, i feel a little scared to ask for some reason.

what do you think is the best way to go about it, and how much more should i ask for.??

I gave my two week notice September 17th and I said my last day is October 4th. I have been getting harassed at work from the Human Resource because she dont like me. Can I leave earlier then my date I planned on? Would I lose any benefits like accrued vacation or anything like that? I would like to have October 2nd my last day, how do I go by doing this? Thanks

The care home in which i work has rencently been taken over by new owners. They are penny pinching in every aspect! Yes i know it's a businnes BUT the patients and staff are all suffering. The food they now buy is crap.....the pads used are not effective and staff are going sick left right and centre as morale is so low. We have also been told we will see no pay rise for 3 years! this is to bring our pay in line with the other 8 homes they own!
What bothers me the most is the cut backs on what the patients get for their money! They are paying more for less!

I learned my lesson. I don't do this anymore. However, I am concerned that an organization may reject me based on my behavior.

I asked again for further deatil and all they said it was not a right fit. On my recent job application I have listed "position eliminated" as my reason for leaving. This has never been an issue for previous background checks. However, I just received a verbal offer for my dream job and I am really concerned what this previous employmer might say about me. We left on good terms.

I'm doing a project for work about working in construction. Have you noticed any red flags in the sector that you'd like to share, such as being underpaid because you were paid under the table, or the feeling that you were/are in a dead end job, or only working seasonally, etc?

I work retail while going to school full-time. Even though I'm barely part-time I work every weekend and have no time to do work for my demanding class load. How do I respectfully quit so I can still get a good future reference? I'm obviously not good with this kind of thing so any help is appreciated.

I am a manager at a business. I never take days off for sickness. OMG, I am so sick to my stomach. Should I leave for the day. I am supposed to be here for a 12 hour day. They could make it without me, but I feel bad putting the burden on another manager.

I need some good opinions here folks. Please star!

My dad is discouraging me to take this new job delivering mail for the post office. So now I need other people's opinions because i am confused.

I have a current job. I have medical/dental insurance on me and my family. I make about 5 dollars less an hour at my current job then I would at my new one. I am very burnt out of my previous job and fell like I will never move up. I applied and been ignored.
I now have an offer with the post office. It pays 5 dollars more an hour plus 30 dollars a day for wear and tear on your car. But untill you go permanent (approx 2or3 years) you dont have medical insurance.
Now i can get All Kids probably for my children. Me and my husband wouldn't have insurance if I changed. He can pick up insurance at his job but it's about 200 dollars extra a month than i pay at my current job.
My dad's points are these:
You have to have your own vehicle. You will have to replace brakes & other often.

I got laid off from my job last winter. I have subsequently been working temp jobs off/on for the past 8 months. I've submitted resumes through Monster, HotJobs and Startribune.com, but I haven't landed a permanent job yet.

Are there any employment agencies out there who deal specifically with placing people directly in jobs without the temporary stipulation? I also have 10 years in my field.

Please let me know if you know of a company you'd recommend or if you're a headhunter for a specific company that you can vouch for!

Thanks!

i have a few questions and i'd be very happy if someone could answer. thanx

- what are the ways to break the ice if you have no prior experience, where and how to start
- can you make a living out of it, suppose you write for several magazines, can this be your full time job
- if you're an english major, what are the topics you can write on - just fiction/philosophy/world affairs? is this in high demand so you can earn enough money to support yourself. thanx a lot

Unfortunately, my profession has become one of many that are now SALARY positions. As a computer specialist, it seems most employers want to hire you for 40 hours a week, but then they almost always want you to work more than that (for 'FREE'), because we are salary.

The employers put peer pressure on you by comparing your work ethic to others who have succumbed to their bosses pressures to work more hours, ...for FREE!!

Now this is not fair at all, and in fact seems to be an unethical work practice that should be against the U.S. Wage and Labor laws. They are just exploiting the use of 'salary' to get more FREE labor. This isn't fair. Salary should be for top management and sales force workers.

Obviously we could find another job, but most other companies are doing the same thing now days.

The only answer seems to be to find another career field, but this isn't practical either. I only want to work 40 hours a week, even at a lower pay.

What are your suggestions?

i was originally going to school for my RN but since having my daughter i would rather go for sonography, giving the sonograms, especially the ones to determine the sex of babies. but i dont know much about it, i dont even know what the actualy job title is called let alone where to go to school for it. would there be enough of a demand for those to where i could get a job in an OB Clinic or hospital. just curious if anyone knows anything more about it! thanks :)
