I am 57, due to retire at 60, have been a fully qualified dental nurse (had to give up due to health problems), re-trained as a secretary and earned my living for over 23 years doing that, drifted into elecronics and spent several years doing that before studying and working in employment law. I also worked in trading standards before being made redundant. At various times I've worked in an estate agency, local government, property management, and even stacked shelves in a supermarket, all temporary assignments.
On 'signing on' for work (Job Seeker Allowance) I've been asked if I would be willing to re-train, and if not, why not. As what? plumber, brickie, IT, what for heaven's sake?

work there altogether. Is this just the tip of the iceberg of what's to come at this job? I got a 3 paragraph nasty email from a Sr. analyst who I work with. It somehow got passed along to our boss who called us both in her office & more or less reprimanded the Sr. person who saw she did nothing wrong. Everyone else I work with is really great & have heard she likes to intimidate people by cutting them down. I don't want to be miserable because of one unprofessional individual at an otherwise potentially great new job. There always has to be one in every crowd!

My son is getting a BS in Health Care Policy and Administration soon. He has pretty good grades (about a 3.5). He's been interested in health care work since 15, with 1000+ hrs of volunteer work in a hospital and a nursing home, plus volunteering for a US Congressman who works on health care issues (while also working summer jobs). He really likes working with senior citizens, although he's also really great with kids. He's trying to figure out how he can have a career that will pay the bills which will hopefully also be a career he can stick with for the next 50 years. He keeps being told about great sales jobs for companies in the health field, but doesn't see himself as a salesman. He wouldn't mind relocating, and has thought about working in such diverse locations as Montana and Washington, DC. His college has asked him to consider staying to get a MS in Health Care Policy. Friends have suggested law school to him. Suggestions??? Thank you.

I just want to know how much they start off and which places will pay more (hospital, clinic etc.) Do non certified MA get paid the same as CMA? How often do you get raises and what is the environment like? Live in Los Angeles Area.

Where can I find and take, say, a "personality test" that gives suggestions of the job types that work for my abilities and prefrences. An on-line test would be great! (esp. free, since I am not working)

I'm still young...mid twenties, and I am currently working on my Masters degree. The career ahead of me is constantly on my mind. I am very excited to begin my career in this particular field but I only want to do it until I have a child. What are your thoughts on this?

I graduated from college with majors in Wildlife Management and Biology a year and a half ago. Since then, I've worked at crap jobs and had one seasonal wildlife job. Frankly, I'm sick of looking for jobs every few months. I now realize this comes with the territory and I'm thinking I want out. Any suggestions for a new career?

Do you have a job that you love? What is it? WHAT SHOULD I DO???!!

I've just been resently let go from a firm...their base for firing meb was b/c a security guard that works in the building where the clients are, stated that I threw something at him (which is complete lie). The firm let me go b/c their who is stationed insided the building that the guard works in is the firms bread and butter. The firm didn't want any bad reviews from anyone from the client's buidling. now, the guard works for the management company of the building. I don't believe that he has any direct relations with the clients. I told my firm that the accusations bestowed upon me is complete false and that I have zero knowledge of the made up incident. Now, could I bring a separate civil suit against the guard for false accusation which ultimately cost my job? I asked to review the surveilance tape to back up the guards claim...the firm stated they didnt' think so....I'm just really pist.

I've been looking for a job since May. I've had several interviews but the bottom line is that I have no relevant field experience. I am a victim of the catch 22. How am I supposed to get experience without a job and vice versa. I tried to get internships while in school but some needed too high a GPA. I had 3.0 they needed 3.5, etc..

I am stressed beyond measure. Can someone please give me advice.

P.S. IT major, Network Security Concentration. 3.36 cumulative GPA.

I'm a receptionist and a client keeps calling in and saying creepy things to me like,
I know where you live.
I Love You.
I have pictures of you.
I'm going to come to your house with glass cutters and cut a hole in your window and sing to you.
He's also invited me to come to his house & boat & vacations with him.
I never go along with these creepy things he says. Several times I've told him "That's Weird" or "Your Creepy". What can I do or say to stop this guy from saying creepy things to me?

He's a client so I can't just hang up on him or block the calls. And he lives in another state. So I'd like to think he won't come here to stalk me.

Basically, a work colleague in our office is planning to buy a new car. Fine. BUT, every time I ask him what car he's getting I get the same reply; he just says either 'handbook' or 'owners manual' and walks off with a 'knowing smile' !! ??
This seems quite odd.

I don't want to quit, I'd like to negotiate a layoff so when I interview again neither party looks bad. I'm really unhappy here and there's no opp for a raise/benefits/promotion. It's a dead-end job w/ a boss that hates all her former employees. I fear what she'll say about me if I quit, even if I give notice. She talks about all the ppl that ever worked for her as if they were all idiots. It's her company so no, I can't go over her head. There's her, 3 employees, and 4 temps. We all feel she's inconsiderate of our needs as human beings.

To let you know how she is: I told her the other employees & I needed health & dental insurance & she said, "Dental? My teeth are fine!"
