I just accepted an IT PM job, 3 weeks into it, and I feel like a deer lost in the headlights. I have PM experience and tech experience on the infrastructure side, but not app dev. Well, this PM job is all about dev projects and tying it all together, also doing financial stuff and other things that I have little experience with, and I feel lost. I am trying to just listen and learn and know that it will take time but I still feel lost and incompetent. Any words of wisdom?

This is probably a long shot but I figured I may as well try. I'm a college senior looking for internships and then a job in the advertising field. Can someone please take a look at my resume and provide me with some feedback before I start sending it out? If you could message me on how to get it to you I would greatly appreciate it and I promise I will not harass you with emails in the future.

A majority of large corporations now self fund their health plans. Smaller companies, some with fewer than 100 employees, are moving to this trend too. This means the corporation you work for is paying for you and your families medical costs.

Anyone else concerned that this trend is both an invasion of privacy and puts a target on your back if you or any one of your family members has serious medical bills?

You're running XYZ, Inc and employ John Doe for an annual salary of $75,000. You provide a medical benefit of $10,000 and John picks up the other $5000 of the annual premium. With 401K matching, & other benefits, he cost XYZ, Inc. $100,000 a year. John's wife, Jane Doe has a chronic illness... costing about $50,000 annually.

XYZ, Inc. knows John is costing them $150K, not $100K. Does John have a target on his back?

I was pondering the other day about what career I would like to take up when I get out of high school and realized that I do have an interest in the making of consumer electronics (Like mp3 players, and portable devices. Not so much computers). What kind of professions are there that would help in the making of this kind of stuff? Can someone give me a list of careers around this area and tell exactly what they do? Thanks in advanced for your answers.

I tend to get really depressed at work. I don't have any friends at work, and I'm probably going to lose my job late this year or early next year. I don't like what I do. I'm looking for a new job. Once 5:30 rolls around, I feel okay again. Anyone else experience the same thing?

Okay, I'm moving from Seattle to Orlando in January and need a new career... I could be considered a good "office manager/receptionist/secretary" but was thinking of getting into the medical billing/coding... if anyone is doing that now -do you like it? -does it pay well? -would you continue doing it for the next 10 years, or is it more of a 5 year career?

I have gone to a university but it was only for 1 year... was thinking of going back a community college then possibly to UCF when I can afford to do so... but in the mean time I really don't want to get involved with retail/grocery/food or even seasonal positions... for the past 3 yrs i've been in a high end $40K/YR salary and im in my early twenties... what are some other good careers that are good for ppl with "some college" who enjoy the desk-type jobs?? again, i dont want something that will be a part-time dead end career.... just looking for input!

I just had an interview with three people at a great company. I would like to send them each a thank you letter, but they told me that they will make a decision about the position by the middle of this week (2 more days). Should I overnight the thank you letter to each person or is an email thank you letter acceptable?

A series of events have made my resume look like a patchwork quilt (four jobs in seven years and now looking for another). I'm worried potential employers think I'm a job hopper.

I've put reasons why I left each position on my resume (none of them negative -- merger, state move, etc.). Do you think I should make a statement about it in my cover letter -- something like "rest assured I'm not a job hopper, been an ever-changing seven years, I've been dedicated to each position and have references that can attest to that fact, etc."?

I'm setting up job interviews for a company, and I scheduled an interview for a friend today because she asked me for one. She didn't show up, so it's going to go on my record that my friend blew off the interview. Why do people do this? Only about 25% are coming to the interviews that I set up. Why do people not show up to interviews?

I can't stand my existing manager though. He's such a power hungry jerk, and I sell him under the table all day long. His business would fail miserably without me right now. I am on track to make my number this year that I have worked so hard to achieve...at the same time, he uses me and everyone else around him. What should I do.

I was laid of from a tractor-trailer driving job that I held for 9 years. I not only drove the truck, I managed almost all aspects of a single truck operation. I would like to see if there are non-driving job opportunites for me in the trucking industry to apply my experience to. I am searching for websites that list these types of positions. Thanks.

I have NO job experience. I have done a bit of volunteering but what I really want to know is if it would be ok to lie about some of the volunteering I've done. Is there any way to check if I don't give them a reference? My resume is going to be really empty if I don't lie about one or two volunteering jobs.

Also I think I should write a cover letter to make my resume stand out and look more professional. If I'm applying to retail outlets, what kind of things should I write on my cover letter?

I really hope someone has some good advice for me on this since I need to make money for a trip in summer 2008 :)

Thanks in advance :)

In regard to these utterly RIDICULOUS psychometric tests used by employers for job applicants, I have just been left utterly FUMING and DISGUSTED, as I have just been knocked back by an employer because I did not "meet the criteria". This is just MADNESS, as I had ALL the clerical experience needed for the job, but they turned me down just because I didn't score high enough on these STUPID STUPID tests!!!

Isn't it about time these employers were made to scrap these tests, and go back to the days when experience counted?

I am still feeling utterly sick and disgusted at this rejection!
