I was laid of from a tractor-trailer driving job that I held for 9 years. I not only drove the truck, I managed almost all aspects of a single truck operation. I would like to see if there are non-driving job opportunites for me in the trucking industry to apply my experience to. I am searching for websites that list these types of positions. Thanks.

Yes they exist. Keep in mind though that most major employers still use Monster, CareerBuilder, and HotJobs and these jobs will often still be listed here under transportation, logistics, etc...

You can also go directly to the website of most major employers and most will have them listed on their site. Some companies that are union (like Yellow) may not have them listed and you probably have to go through your local unemployment office.

There are also a lot of logistics type jobs with government contractors taking the place of a lot of former military and civil service jobs... You can look for jobs specific to the defense industry (DoD), FAA, etc... assuming you can qualify for a security clearance (background check for past 10 years). You can try going direct to the FAA or you some of the contractors you can try are Boeing, Lockheed Martin, SAIC, etc... but you can also do a google search for DOD jobs, defense jobs, etc... and you can find a lot of the smaller players that are often easier to get on board with.

You can also do a google search for logistics jobs, transportation jobs, etc... these are just a few that a found...

Jobs In Trucking Industry

I am based in England so what I am going to mention, there may be an American equivalent. When I suffered a broken leg 5 years ago, the company I was working for (ASDA - part of Wal-mart) put me through a CPC course-- Certificate of Professional Competence to enable me if I so wished to take a job in transport management. This basically involved Transport Law, drivers hours etc. So with your background as an 'Owner Driver', you are well placed to offer any transport company a wealth of knowledge and experience. But in my case, I have been driving 44,000 kg trucks for too long( 20+ years) to sit in an office all day dealing with stroppy drivers, so I am back driving - where I really belong. When I have been looking at other work, I google the job description and area and usually get a few 'hits'. Good luck from a fellow trucker over the pond.

The SR22 will be a problem. I have CDL-A and they frown upon anyone with a driving and drinking conviction. The best bet is to find a mom and pop company that do local hauls and stick with that for a while until he doesnt have to carry the Sr22 anymore. you can try CR England,Schnider,MS Carriers. he wont get hired with UPS>DHL or those kind of companies with it.. look for local hauls in your city. some times they are willing to over look things. Good luck.. PS also look into local moving companies... they will hire to help move the stuff and on occasions they will let you drive.

Dispatching and dock supervision are always good opportunities.
Search the web sites of any trucking co's you can think of. They usually list job openings.
Good luck.
