I didn't get any special training in this area and I know this may sound like a silly question however it is a valid one. Everyone deals with employment rejection differently and I would like to know what works for you.

Two days ago I handed in an application at Barnes and Noble because my current job only gives me 15 hours per week, which is obviously not enough to pay for rent. I didn't expect to hear from Barnes and Noble so soon (only a few hours), and today after an interview I got hired full time starting next week. I can't keep my current job any longer due to schedule conflicts, so the only option I have now is to quit. The problem is that I'm afraid it's rude to my current boss to quit on him so abruptly and without giving him a two week notice to hire someone else. And it's not like I don't like my current job, it's just that I need more hours than what my current boss can possibly give me in order to pay the bills. So what am I supposed do? How should I break it to my boss?

I feel like I'm in a dead end. My last job was wonderful I loved what I did, but my boss and co-workers made it difficult for me to stay there. I was constantly forced to do my co-workers jobs while they did nothing. My boss refused to listen to any concerns. My boss said cruel things to me, I was in the middle of a constant battle between two other coworkers who hated each other. Overall the company just didn't care. So I gave my two weeks and now I'm gone. Except now my ex boss is making it impossible for me to find any decent work. I have been reduced to taking a job that I will hate what I do. Now I feel like I'm stuck. I'm frustrated and hurt. I don't know what to do about it. I have a family to look after and I can't be without work. But it's not right to be so misrable at work that it affects who you are as a person. What can I do now? Anyone have a similar experiance?

I am tired of it and I feel like I need to vent. I have no clue who my boss is anymore. Perhaps everyone! I get to do everyone favors all different departments and all the additional tasks while my boss says nothing! I am overwhelmed and behind in my own work because of those additional tasks. I have no clue who my boss is anymore. What do I do? I just wanted to walk out but i have bills to pay so i can not do that.

I will be placing my resignation letter on Friday. Should I write two different resignation letters: one for my boss and another for human resource? Or would a letter to my boss be enough?

I am a receptionist/office assistant at this company. I was walking to the kitchen and a guy came in to meet with my boss. Its a small office and there are 6 other people around. The guy walked in and I was walking down the hallway by the door and I said Hello and continued walking. My boss comes behind me in the kitchen and starts yelling at me for not greeting him professionally and not offering coffee/water. I know I should have done this but I kinda spaced it, almost thinking someone else would be able to help him and the fact that my boss saw him coming, I almost assumed he would come out to greet him as well. Pretty much, I screwed up, but how do I deal with this and what should I do? I am so embarassed I want to run out of the building! I never have been yelled at at work...Advice?

I work at a hotel and its independently owned but it is a well known hotel (Im not saying which one because I am paranoid lol) but the owner of the hotel lives across the country and cant watch things at the hotel.
We have been fairly slow lately and when the owner came he was interrogating all the workers about each other. He was trying to get us to tell on each other basically. He asked about my manager and was asking questions like, "what does she do all day?" trying to get me to talk bad about her.
Right before he left he told me to be his "eyes and ears" and to keep an eye on everyone for him.
This makes me very uncomfortable and I think it is unappropriate. I am just the front desk clerk, not the manager, not the front desk manager and I dont apperciate him putting me in that position. Im not getting paid to do that you know? What should I do because I dont think this is right and I dont want to be part of all that drama. I just want to do my job. Does that seem right to you?

Hi Guys

So I did and now I have two different preliminary interviews for 2 different companies tommorow and Im scared. I have only ever worked in admin or retail and have some event management experience when i put on a charity gig.
Some general help on marketing and sales and how my experience in jobs listed above could be helpful.

I like my job, its very relax easy, no pressure from boss and the pay is not bad. I recently started grad school and i am even able to do some homework at work. What else could i want? Well, its seems to me that i am getting rusty, my job is not really associated with my area of study or my future goals in career. seems that more i stay at my "easy" job the less knowledgeable i get on my field of interest, because i don't practice it and my job is not challenging me, its just simple tasks. I was thinking i'll get a job after grad school, but thats 2 more years away. Seems that the more i wait, the rustier and less knowledgeable i'll get. Should i get a job thats related to my field of interest? or stay at this unchallenging job, wait 'till grad school ends and than look for something? Thank You

Eg
I am currently a bacelor of commerce majoring in accounting and management. The business environment, even though i could adapt to it would not suit me as being a police officer. I got the degree as a fallback so i am qualified to do a range of jobs eg accountant so i can always find work.

Would it be better to pursue a career path with a greater financial reward that i may get unsatisfied with (accountant) or pursue a career that i will have more fun and be more satisfied doing, for less financial reward.

FYI - i found uni classes to be a bit of a drag.
- average constable (police officer with about 5 years expirience) earns $50 000 - $55 000 a year plus overtime etc. An accountant with same sort of level earns around $ 70 000 in area i looking at with same years in industry expierience.

I have been going into "work" 8 hours a day to train to be a loan officer, I have not been hired, nor will I until the state approves my application. So the only work I've been seeking is with this company and the training is not IDES approved training.

I am interested in nursing as a second career. I already work in a hospital and I love the environment and I love working with patients. Switching to nursing would also mean a big jump in my salary.

As I already have a BA and will soon have an MA in another field, I am interested in an accelerated BSN degree. These usually take 14 months.

Because I owe so much for school already I really do not want to borrow any more. What are the options for getting an accelerated degree funded? Do schools offer full scholarships? Are there future employers who will pay back all of my loans since there is a shortage of nurses?

How can I find out about my financial options? I paid a lot for my Master's and don't want to make the same mistake again.

can you get fired for calling in to take off a shift, and get fired because the reason you had given wasn't good enough? i called in this past friday to let my work know that i could not come in for my shift that day because i had some school responsibilities to take care of. are they allowed to fire you on those grounds alone? otherwise i was an excellent employee and they are aware that i am a college student.
