Yes, it can be. I am a C.N.A in a long term care nursing home. After 9 years there my only release is realizing that when they pass they are no longer suffering. That brings a certain degree of relief. I love my job tho, i enjoy getting to know them as well as i do. I have some that hate it when i have a day off, and others have to care for them. That makes up for lots of stuff. They are like my extended family, I love them all, even the owly ones, and It's one of my jobs to make their time spent with us as enjoyable and comfortable as I can possibly make it.

yes it can be depressing because if you have a heart for people at all you will get attached to the patients some will even be close like your family and friends because nursing homes isn't just for elderly there is people of all ages in there from infants and up in some. What is one of the hardest things to handle is when you get attached to one and they pass away and you have to take care of them and another is when their family wont even come to visit them and just leaves them there wondering when they are coming back but there are some rewarding things too like the ones that are hard to work with finally opening up to you and the ones that are always so happy to see you and the ones that doesn't want anyone else to help them but you some of them become like your family but what i really don't like is when the nurses sometimes mistreats them because they are to busy sitting there to even care. So there are some good things about working in a nursing home and some bad things also

Sometimes it is like others have said because of attachment to residents. However I always tried to view every resident as a grandparent. Just like anyone else you would meet the elderly can be jokesters, ornery, sneaky, or sarcastic. I've had a lot of fun with my residents.

yes,very much so because
1.so many are abandoned by family and friends(no calls,no visits).

2. it's a reminder of our own mortality. and

3.most homes are understaffed and the patients don't get the care and attention they deserve.
