I work at a hotel and its independently owned but it is a well known hotel (Im not saying which one because I am paranoid lol) but the owner of the hotel lives across the country and cant watch things at the hotel.
We have been fairly slow lately and when the owner came he was interrogating all the workers about each other. He was trying to get us to tell on each other basically. He asked about my manager and was asking questions like, "what does she do all day?" trying to get me to talk bad about her.
Right before he left he told me to be his "eyes and ears" and to keep an eye on everyone for him.
This makes me very uncomfortable and I think it is unappropriate. I am just the front desk clerk, not the manager, not the front desk manager and I dont apperciate him putting me in that position. Im not getting paid to do that you know? What should I do because I dont think this is right and I dont want to be part of all that drama. I just want to do my job. Does that seem right to you?

Dont worry. Just mind your own business and do your own job then what can he do to you?

Honey - be looking for another job. This is a toxic situation.

I'm sure he's told everyone to spy on everyone else - which can kill any kind of team-work or esprit de corps.

when you do find a new job, just tell your manager that you sincerely appreciate all she has done for you - professionally - but you feel that it's time to explore other options.

I'm willing to bet he said the same thing to every employee he interviewed, which means HE is the paranoid one, not you. I'd just go about my business normally and when he comes next time I'd say I didn't notice any problems.

not right for him to do that, I guess you can say you are working to hard to notice what they are doing or look for another job
