hey dont worry so much about it. follow other peoples advice on what to say to your boss, i really liked the idea where you thank him for talking to you about this issue, and that you realize it was a mistake and that it wont happen again. i think what happened is that you didnt expect that person to be that important to your boss. it happens to me too. but from now on, who ever comes to see your boss, treat them with coffee and stuff. your boss is a jerk for yelling at you like that, and it is unprofessional.

Don't beat yourself up about it. Learn from your mistake. You won't make that one again will you. The boss shouldn't have yelled at you at all. He should have just pointed out that you'd done something wrong. In future, don't automatically expect others to do the right thing because they often don't. If it's your job in the office to meet & greet, then do all the meeting and greeting to the very best of your ability whether the visitor is meeting your boss or not. Be the best meeter and greeter ever. If it's not too late to apologise to the boss about your mistake, do so. If you apologised at the time then forget it and carry on as normal. The best way to learn is by making mistakes so don't dwell on it. It wasn't earth-shattering.

Well, it's my opinion that failure is not in making a mistake, it's in not correcting it. Say you're sorry to your boss, it won't happen ever again and make sure it doesn't. That being said, you may want to ask your boss if the client thought your boss was professional by screaming at you...
Oh.. and the actual quote goes like this:
Failure is not in the falling down, but rather in the staying down.
Get up, dust yourself off. You'll be fine. Unless having a boss that yells at you bothers you... I know I wouldn't stand for it.

Well you might have screwed up, but your boss screwed up a thousand times worse than you. First of all, you don't yell at employees. Second of all, you don't make a scene in front of the client or other workers. That makes your boss look like the unprofessional, not you.

I say you tell him you are sorry and that you will be More aware of the people that come in the office, but that there is no need to yell at you over that. If you don't stand your ground he is going to get into the habit of yelling any time he wants, so make sure that you let him know that that behavior is not acceptable with you. you will be surprised how much people grow to respect you if you speak up.

First, take a deep breath and relax. We all screw up at some point; it's what we do afterwards that makes or breaks us. After your boss calms down, ask to speak with him. Explain the situation in a clear and concise manner, apologize for your error and inform him it won't happen again. Also, you should mention that you expect to be treated in a professional manner and getting reprimand where your colleague and see and hear is unacceptable.

First off your boss should not have yelled at you. That is very unprofessional on his part. If I were you I would talk to my boss and explained why you did what you did and give a sincere heartfelt apology and let him know it will not happen again, and you make sure it does not happen again. Good Luck

You did mess up, however, if your boss yelled at you then he lost his professionalism as well. At this point I would probably apologize to your boss, say you acted unprofessionally, and them ask him why he was unprofessional with you. But then again, I'm military, and we run by slightly different rules.

I would advise you to speak privately to your boss about this. Explain to him that you were sidetracked and you understand you made a mistake. Assure him that you won't let it happen again. Everyone makes mistakes. Maybe if you apologize to him, he will apologize to you for his unprofessional response. A good boss never raises his/her voice when dealing with employees.
