I want to work someday at a VA Hospital or in a medical setting. But social workers don't really have to get hands-on like that with the patients the way a nurse would; however, I can't seem to think of a good job that is in line with the social worker career that I can work while I'm in college. Any ideas?

One area you could look for a job in is with traumatic Brain Injury (this is something that the VA is having to work with a lot). There may be entry level positions you could qualify for in your communities TBI program. The other area to look at is homeless programs. Many homeless are vets and this would give you good experience with the population.

Nurses aide is just high level housekeeping but with more direct patient care .
It really has nothing to do with social work .

Ask at the hospital which positions would be relevant .
Maybe even working with the chaplains office .

Thank-you for choosing such a noble career .

You could volunteer for some veteran's organization and get experience that way, then work whereever you want. see if you can get in with your local dept of children and families (that's the agency in florida) or similar state agency.
