I had a job interview and the interviewer said he'd call me the next day to tell me if I got the job or not. But he didn't call, would it be ok for me to call him today to inquire about whether or not I got the job? If so what exactly do I say so that I don't sound stupid? Hi X, this is X ????????????????? Thats where I get stuck. HELP!!!

Totally acceptable to call. You can say who you are and who you'd like to speak with. Tell him/her that you are wondering where they are in their hiring process. Often in hiring processes, the company gets behind because of unexpected delays for one reason or another...that doesn't excuse not following through on their word, but it happens. It is also acceptable if you don't get a job to ask what you could do differently in the future (i.e. experience, interview issues, etc) to better qualify for the job.

Calling after an interview can be an excellent idea. It lets the interviewer know you're really interested. You could say something like, "Hi X, this is X, I was just wondering if you'd made a decision about that position you were looking to fill" If he says yes, you're hired, great.
If he says "We're still thinking" say something like "Well, I just wanted to let you know how excited I would be for the opportunity to work for you and please call if you have any questions for me"
If he says "we decided to go in a different direction" then say something like "Well I'm sorry to hear that because I was very interested in working for your company. Please keep my resume on file and if anything else opens up I'd love to hear about it".

That way, if you didn't get the job you don't sound depressed or mad and they might keep you in mind for some other position. Good luck!

Yes. Call.

Hi. This is xxx. I participated in yesterday's interview for the post of xxx. May I inquire if you have come to a final decision? Do you have the final results?

If their answer is a NO, remember - they are also having a hard time choosing the right words for you.

If their answer is a YES, then CONGRATULATIONS!
