I will be sharing the office with her for the next few weeks. She is very pleasant and always calls me 'angel', 'sweetie' etc. I have tried to make small talk with her, but it doesn't lead anywhere. We're complete opposites too. She's very worldly and I'm not. Shall I just let the conversation come from her now and respect the fact she just wants to be quiet? Sometimes, the silence between us is difficult. We do have a radio on by the way. We've nothing in common. I do like her, but I don't know what to say/behave.

Recently, a dear friend called to explain that her Mother may be getting a job in her department. Although she understands that after her Mom's downsizing, she really wanted to get back to work. However, my friend is concerned because she feels that her Mom working in her same dept., may be a little to close-for-comfort. Although she loves her Mom, she feels that this may not be a good move. What should she do? Her Mom is partially excited about the opportunity BUT has admitted that if it will be a problem for her daughter she will continue to look elsewhere. Do you think my friend is being selfish or should be concerned? How would you handle this?

Isn't this a give-take relationship?
Why should THEY call all the shots... you are SELLING your time to them after all. Shouldn't you have some say when it comes to the terms of the relationship? I mean they pretty much just tell you what to do, and you pretty much just do it without questions. Doesn't that make you their little play toy?

I am looking for the decriptors that read something like: Can perform independently without prompting, can complete task with assisstance, cannot complete task without assisstance, cannot complete task without extensive assisstance, cannot complete task.
This isn't the professional verbiage I am looking for, it is a generalization. Does your evaluation use a rating system like this that you can copy here? Thanks.

I don't know what to reply with. I have been reading articles all day that say you should keep it professional, and leave out all personal stuff.

But this thing is, I don't really have a professional background. I've only had one other job, and it was a independent contractor/work from home type thing.

I'm a very reclusive person. I just turned 21, and i'm a bit ashamed to say that i've never had an actual job. the one i'm going for on friday is at a grocery store. Stocking/ parcel pick up i'm hoping.

So how should I answer the "tell me about yourself?" question when I go in for my interview?

I'm sixteen and i'm having alilttle trouble deciding what i want to be. I wanted to be a pediatrician until the tenth grade, then i wanted to be a talk show host. But now, i dont know what i want to do. I know that i don't want to spend most of my life in school. I don't know if this helps, but here's some info about me.

I live in Louisiana, but i love to travel and learn new things.
I'm African American (If that makes a difference in my options.)
I love to watch the behind the scenes and the making of...on dvd's.
I like working in groups on projects that require technology!
I'm Christian (again, if it matters)
I love Disney World, Universal Studios, and the thought of living in Orlando or Atlanta...expecially Atlanta.

Can you give me a possible career that doesn't involve all of that four year stuff like a doctor, dentist and pharmacist has to go through?

I need to get fired and it needs to be involuntary. I live NYC with a large corporation. I just graduated with by bachelors and they paid $3000.00. Now I have to give them 1 year of my life.

I just got engaged and my fiancee just a great job offer Miami. I can't imagine being away from him for 1 year. According to my employee policy, if I quit, I owe them $3000.00. I don't have the money. But if I am involuntary terminated, I don't owe money.

Would no call no show be considered involuntary termination?

Sincerely Yours,

Don't want to be alone in NYC

I was out of work for a week after my last job which only paid me $8 an hour. I now work for a temp agency, and I'm getting paid $11.50 an hour at Allstate Insurance. I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing, it feels good cause I'm not broke anymore, at least for now. I'm hearing a lot of bad stuff about temp agencies but I don't know what is fact or fabricated fiction. This is my first time I've worked for a temp agency, and honestly, I didn't really know what a Temp Agency was when I sent my Resume and application through Monster and CareerBuilder.com. I still kinda don't fully understand what's going on. Can anyone tell me if I should work this job until it's over, or should I keep looking for a real job? I work during the week, so it will be hard to get to any interviews. Any advice in this area would be usefull. Thanks.

I've been working at wal-mart for over 2 years now. I've recently been moved over to the cash office for two days a week! I normally work the service desk. Just recently, I've had to work several days in the office due to another employee going on vacation. Now, I dont understand that they dont have anyone else to replace her and also that it seems this is billion dollar industry and they lack employees all the time. Anyway, without any notice, they scheduled me to work in there to replace her which will entitle me to be at work at 6 am every morning for a week and again I only work 2 days out of week. So you figure, now about 7 days straight and I'm already not getting the pay that the people in the cash office get. I feel used and I still get the pay that a normal cashier would be getting. My next step is to call home office management and complain but is there any other things I can do. The people there act like they cant control it but I think thats all jibberish and its a secret.

I want to be a software engineer. I heard this profession will have me constantly trying to update my skills in computer science. Is this true? I have a problem here because I want computer science to be my security degree. See, I really want to be a messianic rabbi. The profession is not a very secure job. There are only 150 messianic synagogues in the United States and It caters to a select few of individual Jews and Gentiles. My question: Is it possible to major in computer science, then get a job as a software engineer. Afterwards, go to school again to get a Jewish studies and Seminary degree while working as a software engineer?
