does anyone know of any companies that are hiring, dealing with government contracts?

I work as a document specialist, scan operator.

Try any trucking company that works with the government. They have to put in lots of contracts to move government materials.

There are a lot in the DC area. I am not sure what you mean by a scan operator. Do you just scan documents into a computer of copy maching. Do you have any other training. How much schooling do you have, do you have any clearances?
