I'm sixteen and i'm having alilttle trouble deciding what i want to be. I wanted to be a pediatrician until the tenth grade, then i wanted to be a talk show host. But now, i dont know what i want to do. I know that i don't want to spend most of my life in school. I don't know if this helps, but here's some info about me.

I live in Louisiana, but i love to travel and learn new things.
I'm African American (If that makes a difference in my options.)
I love to watch the behind the scenes and the making of...on dvd's.
I like working in groups on projects that require technology!
I'm Christian (again, if it matters)
I love Disney World, Universal Studios, and the thought of living in Orlando or Atlanta...expecially Atlanta.

Can you give me a possible career that doesn't involve all of that four year stuff like a doctor, dentist and pharmacist has to go through?

I like to watch the Discover Health channel, and most home decorating shows. I also like shows that show travel to different states or countries. I love to travel...Even though i've only been to Florida, Louisiana (my hometown is the BR) and Texas.

I love music, writing and English. English and Band are my favorite subjects! I play flute and Clarinet.

I'd also like it if i could avoid working on holidays like Christmas or Easter.

I can handle the normal four years of college. I just don't like the thought of ANOTHER four years and then three years of residency and internship.

You are very young - stop worrying about "making a nice living" and focus on your passion - you will find that when your pursue what you are passionate about, the money will come -

I know it is hard to believe since you are so young, but take it from adults, I have changed my career at least 6 times and would never believe that I am doing what I do now -

Stay flexible, don't turn opportunities down - perhaps travel or volunteer for Peace Corps or Americorps when you get out of school.

I'm sorry to tell you that, unless you're an entrepeneur, many doors will be closed for you if you do not have at least a bachelor's degree. See if you can start earning college credit now while you're in high school - there are programs that will put you at junior status when you graduate from high school.

I'm the same way, sadly I'm out of school and still dont know what to do... its frustrating for me.
Some places give you school but some are like one day a week for a few hours for like a month or more.
Some schools teach you to be a real estate agent and a place around where I am is cheap to go to and is like weekends for a month or something so maybe you could look into that.
Maybe you could work at a Day care.
Maybe look into a job that travels and its for a good reason.
Something that has to do with computers (that cant be too bad)
To be a cosmetologist doesnt take long. I went to a tech school and it took 4 years but I also was in school so I wasnt doing school out of high school and now I'm able to get my license by taking tests and do clients, so that was easy.
Travel agent.

Come to Xavier University in NOLA, like me!! They have a great broadcasting program, but it isn't up and running yet since Katrina. It should be by the time you come to college. It is a four-year school, but it is one of the best private schools for the price. It is the only African-American and Catholic college in the US, but it accepts all races and religions (look at me). They have good scholarship programs, and good career counselors. Besides, you want a good, well-rounded education that will serve you well no matter what career you choose. Going to a trade school trains you for one job, and what if you start that job and don't like it? You are back at square one.

you could take small courses at a local college/night school (journalism/social or businessy classes)- pick short small courses to get you where you want to go and by doing it this way it doesnt feel like years, and you meet different people each class. there is like 6 month courses ( I took Business Administrative course and am now a receptionist at a Dr.s office-only make $11.50/hr -canadian ) . There are also short courses like dental assistant-
