I worked at a bank where I was miserable for two years, and a month ago I got fed up and gave them 2 weeks notice. I don't have another job yet and I'm having difficulty with what to tell potential employers my reason for leaving was. The truth is my manager played favorites, and treated me unfairly. She would make inappropriate comments about my weight and falsely accuse me of being anorexic. I worked 40 hours a week when I was only supposed to work 25, but she refused to give me full time employement because she didn't want to pay benefits. The branch's sales goals were completely unreasonable and 50% of our performance was based on meeting these goals. We were expected to open as many new accounts in a town of 20,000 as branches in downtown Chicago, population 3 million. She denied me raises not once but twice. In two years I got a whopping 30 cent increase. I was a good employee. I had exceptional customer service satisfaction scores and was extremely reliable. What do I say?

I feel bad when I go on interviews and hear that I did not get the job. I feel like something is wrong with me and I can not interview properly.

It may just be that my skill set is not a match for the job, etc.

What is the best way to deal with this feeling?

I can understand a senior citizen working during retirement if he or she TRULY needs the money, but many people that do not need the extra money go back to part-time or full-time work anyway. These retired people are also payed a lower salary and I think it just hurts younger people who could benefit more from the job the "retired" person is doing. In addition, many older people can't do the more physically-demanding jobs as well, so this places an extra burden on younger people working around the person (to make up for the physical demands not met by the retired person). Anyway, to me it just seems that, if an older person who doesn't need the extra money is just bored, they should do volunteer work or something and let the younger people have the jobs that pay the bills.

Ugh~ I just can't stand the vibe from these people that just think they are all that. Why not try to make life better for all and think a bit on the positive side.. Oh and mind their own business!!

I put in my two-weeks notice for a new job. I've been at this one for more than 3 months, but have hated it all along.

My boss is a slavedriver and probably would have told me to leave if he didn't have a third of a full staff. The other employees told me that is his typical response when someone quits.

The day I gave my notice, I could tell he wanted to flip out on me.

So, I feel like not showing up again because that animosity affects my work anyway. The only thing I'm concerned about is that the media is a large but tight business and I that could come back to haunt me.

But I won't get a reference from him anyway -- he's well-known as a jerk.
