I put in my two-weeks notice for a new job. I've been at this one for more than 3 months, but have hated it all along.

My boss is a slavedriver and probably would have told me to leave if he didn't have a third of a full staff. The other employees told me that is his typical response when someone quits.

The day I gave my notice, I could tell he wanted to flip out on me.

So, I feel like not showing up again because that animosity affects my work anyway. The only thing I'm concerned about is that the media is a large but tight business and I that could come back to haunt me.

But I won't get a reference from him anyway -- he's well-known as a jerk.

Where do you work? on tv? on the radio? all this does matter. If you are in the media and it is one of these things I would stick my 2 weeks out. You made it 3 months you can make it another 2 weeks. If they are that harsh that you cant preform your job then I would suddgest doing what you need to do. - good luck

As you say Media is a tight business so they will know how your boss works so you have no reason to worry if he doesn't give a reference.

Work your two weeks as this will not give him any ammunition to use against you and will be seen by any future employer as a good sign not a negative.

Give a week or two, s**t in a box and get a courier to deliver.

It's your call, you say the media is a tight business, if you feel that he will retaliate in some manner, affecting your livelihood, then you should ride it out. I realize that it's a pain in the rear working for someone like that, 2 weeks can seem like eternity. Maybe, he will walk in an tell you to hit the bricks, guys like those love to do that kind of thing. Never burn your bridges:-)

Sounds like a catch 22. Guess you just gotta develop a thick skin. People arent always going to treat you the way you would like and it sounds like your smart enough to know that what he says isnt always true. Be confident in your ability to do the job and appreciate that you have another job to go to. You have to make up you mind if you go back or not. It might be nice for you to go back and at least try and show that your bigger than all this and try and end off on a good foot. Hope it all goes well for you.

Finish your two weeks, with the satisfaction that you did the right thing & you'll soon be getting away from this jerk! When you apply for future jobs & the subjest of two weeks notice comes up, you'll be able to truthfully say, that you always give two weeks notice prior to leaving a job.
Good luck!

As bad as you hate it, be professional and stick out the two weeks. If he wants to be unprofessional, that's his problem, but don't put a bad mark on your record because he's a jerk. Oh, and congrats on the new job.

Go in, but if he says anything that bothers you, leave at that point. and then leave this job off your future resumes.
