I really want to be a Registered Nurse when I get older!!!! But, I don't know if it is right for me. So, can someone give me the pros and cons, the salary, and what it is like to work in a hospital setting and what it is like to work in a clinic setting. Please tell me if you like your job as a nurse and what are the fun and hard parts. Please just try to tell me a little bit of EVERYTHING about being a nurse!!! Thanx!

Nursing is a good profession, as it is rewarding to help people but the work isn't easy and the hours are long. A lot of people burn out easily although others stay with it for many years. I suggest you work as a nursing assistant before choosing the profession because a lot of people find it isn't the job for them. Good luck.

Here goes:
Different people see different things as pros and cons.
Usually 12-hour shifts, unless you work in certain Dr. offices (not many RNs do because the pay is less).
On your feet a great deal/don't sit at a desk for long
Depending on the area you work in it can be fast paced, can have long, boring downtime periods,
You get to/must deal with all types of people: clean/dirty, nice/mean, young/old, not so sick and act like they are dying/dying and never complain.
Nursing school can be hard to get into (I'd go to the school of your choice and start working on it now).
You work primarily with women who can be vicious (there is a saying that nurses eat their young) and will probably NOT be nice or helpful right after you graduate.
You have to deal with blood, snot, poo, urine and everything else that comes out of people.
Your salary can be from $24/year to $100/year depending on what type of work you do and how much you want to work.
My Hus is an RN, I am going to nursing school now. We both work in a hosptial in an ICU. He hates it and can't wait to get out.
If I were you, I would go to your guidance counselor and see if you can get career counseling (testing) to see if it would be a good possibility for you. Good luck!

PS Jan's suggestion about working as an assistant would give you an idea about whether you want to be a nurse.

More than any of the factors you have mentioned, what you need to consider is job satisfaction. Nursing is a service industry and if you feel good serving the needy (the patients need a nurse's help in many ways), that is the best reward of all! It is ideal to join the profession when you are young so that you can grow professionally and get well-settled in the field by the time you are in your mid-30s! Good luck!
