if you mean a cruise ship CAPTAIN.....

a high school course load heav on engineering, mathamatics;

a degree ( A BS in Engineering is normal) from a merchant marine academy ( US Merchant Marine at Kings Point, or state schools in Massachusetts, Maine or California) for a start....then about twenty years experience working your way up the ranks from 4th officer to Captain, sitting for progressively tougher exams based on experience and "sea time" ( actual days under way) till you qualify for a license that says "Master, Any Gross Tonnage, Any Ocean"

Your maximum in all possibility course may well be to graduate from the united statesNaval Academy, and paintings your way up in rank, and increasing expertise and household tasks on ships until eventually you become a captain. Retire (after 20+ years), and then consult with the cruise lines.
