I have been working for a small company for almost 3 months. During this time, I have heard terrible things about the owner of the company and his business practices. Employees are leaving in droves due to these rumors.

At present, I am a temporary employee but an informal offer of permanent employment with the company has been made to me. I would like to stay because I have been temping for the last 2 years and I want to find a job I can stay with for at least 5 to 10 years.

The rumors worry me because they are serious in nature and I've seen for myself that they could have basis in fact. I am sole breadwinner in my household with a child to support so I would have to have a new job secured before I could walk away.

Should I take the risk and try to find another job?

I emailed a resume and 2 portfolio examples to a local business that was looking for a marketing assistant. I know they asked to have all resume's in by April 18th. Is it ok to "check" on your resume via email or is that being too pushy? and if so how would you word it?

How long does it take for your unpaid pay, overtime to come through when you apply to the incolvency fund for payment. My boss told us on Thursday that we would be finished on Friday, we didnt get paid for that week, and we are all due overtime and holidays. After applying to the fund, how long would we normally have to wait before receiving payment?

Follow up to the "back up" question. My boss asks me about problems with my staff. How much should I tell him about their problems? My boss doesn't seem to have much confidence in my ability to deal with problems. If I don't mention things that I have dealt with, he hears about it through the grapevine or from HR. Then I still get in trouble with my boss who always is second guessing my decisions. So, for managers: do you keep quiet and just deal with things, or can you talk about staffing issues without it coming back to haunt you? Another problem I have is my boss going directly to my employees to deal with their problems without telling me. Then I get heat for not dealing with stuff that I didn' even know about. When I do follow through on my boss' suggestions on resolving staff issues, things *always* get worse, or insubordination, more complaints, more bad attitude, etc. This is like a downward spiral to hell.

ok so i'm a freshman in h.s. and lately a lot of ppl have been asking me what i wanna be when i grow up and my school even took us to colleges so we can like see where we wanna go when the time comes. now i only have like 3 yrs left of h.s. cause this yr is almost over and i have NO IDEA of what i wanna be when i grow up! first i wanted to be a doctor, then a teacher, then a geologist, then a climatologist, the an earth science teacher, but now i really have NO CLUE! i DEFINATLY want to go to college but i guess i really don't know what all my options are like career wise. my grades right now are:
adv. geometry- 104%
adv. eng.- 101%
pre chemistry-99%
speech-100%
spanish-98%
civics-98%
business-97%
home ec.-100%

what kind of fields based on my grades should i consider going into? what kind of career options would best suit me? and like i said i'm definatly without a doubt going to college so i'll have even more career choices.

For 6 years, I held three jobs, then for the past two years I've been essentially unemployed, working with friends/relatives doing oddjobs under the table.

I have no problem succeeding in an interview. No criminal acts, addictions, whatever problems. I simply have no recent references, and even the outdated references I could dream up from my previous 'meaningful corporate employment' would be tangential at best, and most likely not even working at the previous place of employment.

So how do I manage to get past the "list as many previous employers, their phone numbers, blood types, average heartbeats per day, and no friends or family please" and still manage to get an interview ?

I'm not really looking for a serious career, either, just a parttime, somewhat better then minimum wage job that can help with bills without drawing directly from my savings.
