It depends on where you live. Each store is divided up into pay scales levels, depending on the living costs of the area. For example, in south western Pennsylvania, an account rep starts off at $9.77/hr. After 90 days the pay is increased to $10/hr. You are required to work 48 hrs a week. 40 hours regular pay, 8 overtime pay.If you live in an area that has a higher or lower level of living costs, the pay is adjusted to fit. As far as becoming a manager, it is not a time issue, but rather how long it takes you to move up and grasp the entire business. RAC operates differently than most retail establishments. The manager is responsible for all aspects of the business. If you are hired, you will start off as an account rep and be responsible for managing customer accounts. This includes:
1. loading, delivery and set up of merchandise going into and out of customers homes. According to rac policy, you must be able to lift 50 lbs unassisted.
2. after a few weeks, you will be assigned a route of customers. It is your responsiblilty to track customers payments, phone calls and home visits when they do not pay, etc.
3.General help in the store which includes sales and basic upkeep like cleaning merchandise, helping set up the showroom floor.
After you have shown that you have learned all the basic groundwork of the rental business, you can test for a promotion to Inside/Outside sales manager. This requires you to learn more about the business side of it rather than the customer side. If you do well at this, you can re-test to become an assistant manager. The assistant manager does a lot of the office work and is trained to take over a store. How fast you can become a manager depends on how quickly you grasp the overall business and how many openings there are in your area. In most cities, there are openings for managers every year. But, in smaller populated areas, with less stores, the wait can be much longer. There is more info on employment at rentacenter.com and you can apply directly on the site. However, if you go into a local store, you can apply and be tested that day. In some cases, you may even get an interview that same day. Rac has decent benefits. You are given stock options when you become a manager and also for higher management positions. The job requires that you work an awful lot, especially as a manager.
