I emailed a resume and 2 portfolio examples to a local business that was looking for a marketing assistant. I know they asked to have all resume's in by April 18th. Is it ok to "check" on your resume via email or is that being too pushy? and if so how would you word it?

I'd give it at least a full two weeks, then I don't think it would be inappropriate to send a followup. It can't hurt to show you are still interested in the position.

Dear (person you sent the resume to)

On (date) I submitted my resume and portfolio in response to your listing for a Marketing Assistant. As I am extremely interested in the position, I would like to know if I am still a candidate or if the position has been filled. Thank you very much for your time and consideration.

If you don't hear back in four weeks, then you might also consider giving them a phonecall.

I think it would be too pushy...
At the job I'm currently at, it weirds me out whenever people ask if their application has been read because we have a business to run and it's normally quite busy. Some people just don't have the time to get back to you and you're eating up our time by bothering us.
