Onee of those company bonding weekends was coming up and with no excuse to duck out I sat in the doctor's waiting room for half-an-hour and got the flu. Couldn't go. Genuine excuse. Result.

WELL DONE YOU. Them bonding sessions are a complete waste of time because everybody is nice and chummy to your face BUT when you are back at work it's the same old stuff & everybody wants to stab you in the back.
Your boss should give you a rise for your initative(bet he didn't want to go either).

Yeah .. well place I worked at once had that idea ..

A number of us checked our Contracts of Employment and it stated quite clearly that our hours were from 'Monday to Friday' and '37 hours minimum' ... so they could make us do unpaid overtime during the week, but no way could they force us to give up our weekends ..

This didn't stop the Department Manger from declaring that it was 'compulsory' - but half the employees still failed to turn up and one guy that did go twisted his ankle and was off sick for a week = so they dropped the whole idea after that :-)
