Should you have as much power over your job as your job has over you?

Isn't this a give-take relationship?
Why should THEY call all the shots... you are SELLING your time to them after all. Shouldn't you have some say when it comes to the terms of the relationship? I mean they pretty much just tell you what to do, and you pretty much just do it without questions. Doesn't that make you their little play toy?

Really it seems that most people are just slaves and don't realize it.

You are absolutely right about that. I always wonder why people panic when there's a gap in their resume, or panic about some question or other because in their mind, the employer holds all the cards.
I just don't subscribe to that thinking. Any business would be nothing without the people who keep it running day to day. My first question was always "How much are you willing to part with for my services". I think they need me as much as I need them. If more people thought that way, we wouldn't have all the tension involved in applying for jobs.

I guess that explains why I had to become self-employed. I just couldn't deal with the "employee" /slave way of thinking.
I decided that if some of these people could be managers, even though they knew less than I did, then I could certainly become an owner....and I did....and I'm MUCH happier now.
