At my office there are four supervisors and one of them is playing favorites and treating her employees unfairly by making unreasonable demands on them. The senior employees have left the team, leaving the new hires with the pet and one other employee who is waiting for retirement but doesn't seem to care.

The supervisor's boss seems oblivious to what is going on even though he has been approached about the matter. Fortunately this is another team. But what can the employees do? If they get together and go the boss or the bosses boss it could blow things up and these new employees are probationary and are scared to come forward.

This is the government and senior employees have substantial protection. As a member of another team what should advise these employees. Would it be worth going to my supervisor, who I get along with fine, about this situation?

Tell me about your first jobs and if you liked them. And why or why not you liked the job. Any opinions and information about good first jobs (or bad ones, so I can avoid them) is appreciated.

Thanks!

I am looking at the best place to live for me and my family in the US. I work for one of the lagest IT companies and, in order to maintain my managerial role at such senior level, I understand I am short listed when it comes to where I should be living, from a careeer perspective. However, I am also looking for a good quality and standard of living for my family (neighborhood, schools, etc.). We currently looking at the Washington DC area, but this may not be the best location to relocate to. I understand this is a very subjective topic, but I am looking for some guidelines on where (or what) I should be looking, in order to base my opinion upon, before I can make my decision. I thank you in advance for your kind attention and precious advise.

I'm in the web design field and I'm just starting out. I have only designed one commercially available website to date. http://www.boydsgoodyear.com/

Should I do some freelance work (from sites like scriptlance.com and ifreelance.com) to build a portfolio or should I just do some free work on the side ?

It seems like it will be hard to get freelance work on those sites anyways.

Anyone have any experience with this? Suggestions?

Thanks!

I have a wide variety of experience. When applying for a specific job, should I gear my resume to include the expereince related to the job or include ALL even if it is absolutely inconsequential? Also, I had a job lasted only 4 months due to illness, do I need to include that in a resume?

I've been working for a small business for almost 2 yrs now, and when I first started working, I was told I was going to get paid a certain amount. I didn't, I got paid $2 less then what told. So I didn't say much, because I really needed a job. 7 mnths after getting hired my boss gave me a 50 cent raise (yay) she said that I am such a great worker so she gave me an early raise. Now I do ALOT for this company, I get here at least an hour and half early and start do some work - I don't even clock in! I work for an hour and half for FREE! pretty much. I feel like I'm the lead compare to the others, I'm smart, fast learner, and bilingual (the only bilingual here too). My boss tells me all the time, how she likes the way I work, and she even gave me a generous Xmas bonus. But I feel like I am underpaid, for all that I do. I think I need to get paid at least $4 more. How do I go about asking her for a $4 raise.I deserve it, even my other co-workers say so. Note: I work 2 positions & no raise

Ok so I have two job offers, one is 10 minutes away from where I live, but the pay range is between $35-40K an hour, and I have an opportunity to grow with the company but I have to give a 2 year commitment. The other is a job which will pay me 45-50K a year, however the job is 25 minutes away from where I live and that's only when there isn't morning or evening traffic, with traffic i will be on the road for at least an hour I also will have to give a 2 year commitment. My only concern is, that is it worth taking the job that pays me more if I am going to be wasting so much gas and time on the road? Please help?!

I just applied to a local smoothie shop and if I get a call back with an interview, i'm not sure what i'm suppose to wear. I've read that jeans are strongly inappropiate. But this is a smoothie shop and i don't consider it to be dressed 'professionally.' My brothers have landed a job before when they wore jeans to their interview. i'm not sure what i'm suppose to do! Please and thank you!

I work at an electronic store in Illinois for an insane boss. He exercises absolute authority over us, and despite his real government name being Dmitri Tserkov, he forces us to refer to him as Stalin. We dont know the significance of that but we can never utter his real name. He is from Europe and is a tall and muscleler guy, while most of us working for him are highschool kids. I am 17 going on 18 and this is just my second job. It would take like all of us to fight him because of how physical he is. The acts of brutality at this place is outrageous. Not only does Stalin scream at us all the time, Stalin also puts hands on us. On one occassion I was shoved by him just because I came late to work because it had snowed outside. There is a storage room in the back where Stalin does all sorts of things to us. He calls the room "Balakovo" though none of us know the significance of that either. This room is where all punishment for infractions are carried out. If you defy him or dont carry out a command, you go in the closet. Thats when he locks you in a closet in the storage room in complete darkness. You have to stand up in there because it is small, somethings you are in there for hours. Kids have come out of there and literally collapsed or layed down on the ground motionless. Another punishment is "the pole". Thats when you are tied up to a pole and you are smacked with a large ruler. During all of this, every employee must be present. And he forces us to stand in a circle around this pole while we watch the beating so that everybody knows what that it can happen to us. The other punishment is "the moscow throne" when you are tied in a chair and blindfolded, then he punches the person in the chest six times in the chest. Most of these punishments occur during the meetings or "sessions". These meetings are pure terror because people that have displeased Stalin are singled out and stood against a wall to await retribution. The worst thing Ive seen was when this boy Albert who had just got employed miscounted the register, so in a meeting he made Albert strip naked and get on both knees. Then he took the free swinging segment of his tied belt and forced it in Albert's mouth nd girated into Albert's face. In the meetings none of us can even offer advice or speak unless granted permission because Stalin claims that he is the first, second, third, and final authority on the store and that in his own words "this is not a democracy". Things got ruff when a Best Buy moved down the street. Several of my friends worked there so I saw them alot. Stalin had the nerve to tell me not to hang out with them and that he would choose our friends for us and that we were married to him and the "father" which is what he called the store. I thought this was ridiculous, and Im tired of the way he treats us. Everybody wants to do something, but all of us are afraid that the authorities would never believe us.

I'm a manager at a retail store and my girlfriend is about an hour drive away. My boss said I can't visit her on my day off cause my employee's aren't responsible enough and I can't be more then 20min away from my store. Is this legal? If its not can someone find me some documentation where I can confront him about it? Thank you!
