Ok so I have two job offers, one is 10 minutes away from where I live, but the pay range is between $35-40K an hour, and I have an opportunity to grow with the company but I have to give a 2 year commitment. The other is a job which will pay me 45-50K a year, however the job is 25 minutes away from where I live and that's only when there isn't morning or evening traffic, with traffic i will be on the road for at least an hour I also will have to give a 2 year commitment. My only concern is, that is it worth taking the job that pays me more if I am going to be wasting so much gas and time on the road? Please help?!

You didn't say if you would enjoy both jobs equally as well. This is an incredibly important decision since you will spend so much time there. Commute time is a factor (I've done 15 minutes/10 mile commutes, and I've done 75 minute/60 mile commutes with tolls), but so is: do you like who your boss would be, did you get a chance to meet any of your co-workers? How about corporate/store culture...any other perks like time off/fitness center/cafeteria, etc.? Which has the better benefit program (really important)?

I would recommend a table of pros & cons of each opportunity and honestly answer all these questions and more. Then make your decision.

BTW, my husband was offered two jobs back in '99. One was for $40k and one was for $50k. He chose the lesser paying one because he thought he'd enjoy it more. he's still there 7.5 years later.

10 k equals about 192 p/wk, when taxes taken out, additional gas figured in PLUS 5-10 hours per week commute at your hourly wage, don't see any profit i
Suggest you consider the job which is close to where you live as it gives you an opportunity to grow with company. Not only will it give you more free time (non commute) to enjoy your life, but it will also allow you to make up the additional money you are initially losing (5-10k) as you move up the corporate lasdder as the company grows. Plus side is the road to management will be quicker in a growing company and so will pay increases. But most importantly, you will know & have built a relationship with the CEO/COO of company.

Well, 45-50k dollars a year is a big difference, after your making bigger money, you can consider moving closer to your job. Id say, take it, commute as long as you have to, move closer.

This one is easy.

Which job would you enjoy more?

I commute an 2 hours a day to a job that is fun and relaxing. It blows by, and I don't have to dread coming in for work.
