Do you have documentation showing that he said it was alright for you to go on vacation? If so, I would bring this up to either HR or the owner of the company. You should be able to pull in someone else to help deliberate on the situation. After you came back from vacation, have you gone back to work? If not, has it been 3 days or more? He could not be answering your calls so that it looks like you quit. Make sure you are contacting someone else as well.

This is hard to answer without knowing all the details. The best option depends on several things. First let me say that granting specific vacation time to an employee and then taking this back is a no-no on the part of the "boss"/employer. The employer had better have a darn good reason for doing so, in my opinion. Of course, bosses make mistakes too just like everybody else. Read on.

2nd, the type of job that you have is a key factor here. For example, do you deal with life or death situations on your job? Are you a nurse where people's lives depend on you? My point is, would taking your vacation during the time you thought was cleared with your boss put any people at risk of something substantial and important such as their lives? Or, does your boss want to re neg on your agreed vacation time for his or her OWN convenience (some bosses actually think they can get away with this) or because of some stupid meeting that doesn't matter anyway, or so that somebody (could be him or her) will APPEAR to look better in some other "boss's" eyes? Do you see what I'm getting at?

Also, take into consideration the type of relationship you have with your boss. If he or she is a good person and treats you well and has gone out on a limb for you in the past, and this time he or she made an honest mistake in scheduling vacation time and it would really help out if you could rearrange your plans, then maybe you should think about re-booking your flight. Also, whether or not you like your job is a factor.

My point is that you have to look at the entire situation to evaluate what the best course of action is. If in doing so, you honestly feel that you are entitled to keeping your vacation during the time it was granted to you, then you need to assert this to your boss.

I would have to risk losing the ticket instead of my job. I would send my family and other family member. And then hope to take a vacation at a more convenient time. Or when I was scheduled to go on vacation.

If he does not own the company or it is a large company complain to corporate headquarters. If small company complain to human resources. Short of that you should start putting your resume out. Did you try going back to work?
