Travel - 22 February 2007

I'm writing a letter to one of my cousins in the Philippines and I wanted to attach something special to it....(I live in the US). Nothing too too big--just something I can easily put in a regular-sized envelope. Does anyone have any ideas for some type of small souvenir from the US that some one in the Philippines would enjoy? Any time of special thing available only in the states? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks :)

three friends of mine from Europe and myself are planning a trip to the south of the US this May. Of course, we want to spend as little money as possible - especially on motels/hotels. Are chains like motel6 etc. the cheapest way to go? Are these places often overbooked or is it ok to go there without making a reservation in advance? How much is a cheap room for four? Thanks! (I welcome any other advice concerning our travel plans!)
