Yelm is just northeast of Olympia. It's a pretty rural area still that hasn't been hit with outrageous jumps in cost of living. However, it is rural. It would take you at least 15 minutes to get there off the i-5 freeway. It's got great views of Mt. Rainier. It's about half way between Olympia and Tacoma, but it's 15 minutes east of the freeway, so it really is out in the toolies. It's growing quickly though, and I imagine that the property values will rise steadily at a good rate for the next 5 years or so.

Yelm is a rural, but fast growing town slightly South and East of Olympia, WA. It's situated on the crossroads of Highways 510 East and 507 East.
Driving from Portland you should take Tenino exit and go all the way through Rainier to Yelm.

If you are thinking about staying in Portland then I would suggest not applying for the job. Yelm is about 120 miles away and over a 2 hour drive.
