My husband and I are planning our first trip to Australia (from NZ), and are flying into Cairns (mid-Feb). I have two questions:

1. Is it best to rent a car to travel around the area (Port Douglas, Mission Beach, etc.), or is other transportation (bus, shuttle) easier? We like the freedom of renting, but of course aren't familiar with the local road system.

2. Can we see Kangaroo and Koala bears in this region (cheesy question I know, but it is our first AU trip)?

My family is hosting an Australian exchange student for two weeks and is currently in the process of finding things to do with her when she arrives. I don't want to just take her around doing things she could be doing back home. So I pose the question to anyone who has been to both places: What kinds of things can you do here in the states that you can't do down under? What kinds of foods are here that she won't have had before? etc. I live in Southern California (more specifically, San Diego) so I have a lot of things to do at my proposal, I just need help narrowing them down.

Any suggestions?

I want to move to Australia but i don't know where exactly. I'm a big fan of sports, water sports and extreme sports. And I'm a big city kinda guy and i love clubbing. Oh, and i love the heat, the hotter the better. preferably near the ocean too. IS THERE REALLY SUCH A PLACE OR AM I DREAMING?

i just recently visited the Gold Coast of Australia, around a place known as Surfer's Paradise, and the young people there from like 16's-20's they are like all hot, most of them at least. but the girls there are beautiful, the dudes are actually attractive. ( and its not wrong for a guy to say another guy is actually attractive) and i like their accents too...

Does anyone else think this. because i know its just my opinion.

I am from the US and will be in Melbourne, Australia for 2 weeks, then off to New Zealand. Friends have suggested the South Island for great hiking. Also, I was told I should take the ferry from the North to the South Island, because it's pretty breathtaking. Any suggestions on where to go and where to stay?

Our little family is soon to be relocating to the Gold Coast. Please tell me - snake danger? Spider danger? Is it safe to live on the Gold Coast? We are looking for a better way of life, but am afraid of looking over my shoulder for a snake, spider attack. My son is young and we would like another little person in the near future. is this a good move?

That is the link. The pictures are on the bottom of the page... The only helpful ones (I think) are the ones with the hospital entrance and the view from the ocean.

Thanks.
