My friend has a criminal record which looks quite bad. He maliciously set fire to a car when he was 19 (an abandoned shell in a field), got arrested and banned for drink driving and has a record for drunk and disorderly (fell asleep in the street).

No judgemental comments please, I know it is bad - he paid his time (12 weeks) and he was a troubled youngster who couldn't cope after his Dad died and he got into the wrong crowd.

He is a completely different person today and hasn't been arrested or in trouble since then (this was 5 years ago, he is 25 years old)

Has he got a chance or is it a no hoper? Should he even bother applying?

People on Yahoo tend to say that Aussies are nice and laid back but I've got a lot of Asian friends studying in Australia, and they told me that they have met quite a lot of racist people in Australia. Are Aussies racist toward only Asians? Or are only those people who my friends have met racist? I am pretty concerned about this issue because I am seriously thinking of moving to Australia. Am I going to be ok as I am a Caucasian? I am not trying to offend any Aussies, but wanting to know the truth. Thank you.

I know of the barrier reef, but nothing else. I heard Sydney is beautiful. I have had a Foster's a time or two. But what I want is a unique, not-so-prim-and-polished vacation, and to stay off the beaten path so to speak. I want to get a really good feel for the country. Anybody made a trip like this? Anything would be helpful.

Thanks, Steve.

I miss him so much. I'm afraid that I will never get to learn about nature as excited as I have learned when he was around. Do you miss him?
