I am planning to drive from Sydney to Alice Springs in July via brokenhill. Can someone tell me if there are any good fishing sites on the way ? I wouldnt mind deviating about 30 to 50 KMs from the road.
Also tell me the information about the kind of fish that i migt find there and the kind of fishing rods i might need for those fishes as i have never done fishing in my life.
Please help.

There is fishing in the rivers of the Murray/Darling system some of which you will cross on your way to Broken Hill. If you are going via Dubbo and Cobar there are rivers at Bathurst, Molong, Dubbo, Narromine, Warren, Nyngan and the Darling itself at Wilcannia. Once you are over the Darling, forget about fishing unless you call into Port Augusta. After that you are in the desert and there are no fishing spots.

Not all of the rivers will be open to fishing as we are still in drought in some areas and there is little water in the rivers. As far as rods and tackle are concerned, I would discuss his with someone at a fishing tackle shop who will recommend the right equipment for you.

You will need a licence to fish in NSW, you can get one at any Post Office or fishing tackle shop.
