my partner and i want to buy or rent a house ANYWHERE in australia. we currently live south of brisbane but i want a nice change....does anyone know where i could look? i dont want the area to be too expensive/hot/murder scenes etc.

Tasmania is not too hot or expensive and apart from Martin Bryant, they don't seem to do murders very often. It is a beautiful place with friendly people. Apart from that, cooler in Australia goes with more expensive. The coolest places are on the coast and you pay for sea views.

I live in the North Eastern Suburbs in Adelaide. It is a really nice area - reasonably priced, close to the city, beaches, hills and wineries. Adelaide is not as bad as people make it out to be!

Tasmania fits into all your requirements ...not too expensive , not too hot , low crime rate etc. You can look at house prices at different areas on website below.
