London is safer, however New York isn't bad anymore. The days of a lot of crime in Manhattan are a decade ago. You can get mugged or robbed in London too.

Go to the city you wish and you will be just fine.

Statistically, London is not safer than New York, with one exception--murders. You may feel safer in London because the areas a tourist would travel tend not to be those with crime and you won't be exposed to much, but down the list the numbers are higher in the UK for robbery, assaults, etc.

However, there are different ways in which the crimes are counted that may account for the disparity.

That said, London 'feels' safer than NY. I don't feel as worried walking through London as I do in some places in NYC.

Actually, a recent study (done by a University in the Netherlands) states that you are more likely to be a victim of violent crime in London than in New York.

New York has more murders but in all violent crimes (murder, assault, armed robbery, and rape) London is more dangerous than New York.

Definitely. Robbery is likely in London also, but getting killed and surrounded by gangs is a feeling you have more in the US.
