I was in NYC over the weekend, and the level of development between downtown and midtown vs. the first 30 or so blocks of Manhattan struck me. In Downtown and Midtown, 40+ story towers are not uncommon, whereas anything over about 20 stories IS uncommon for Greenwich Village, Tribeca, and Soho (and other places Im possibly leaving out for lack of knowledge). Why is this?

Has anyone ever used Malarone malaria tablets while travelling? Going to Eritrea next week and am wondering which ones to go for. I've been given the choice of malarone or the cheaper doxycycline, which appears to have more potential side effects.

I am thinking about moving to Chicago. I would like to live in the city, not the suburbs. What area is best for a 25 year old, single, professional female to live in? And what is the average rent for a 1 bedroom in that area?

Also, is it more of a hassle than a convenience to have a car? With parking costs, traffic...

Any suggestions would be appreciated! I get very discouraged when I check the weather lately so any "selling" on the city would be helpful :)
