Jax is VERY spread out... they used to say it was the largest city in land size in the US (dunno if its still true)... East side of city is generally good but a little higher cost because it is close to beach. Orange Park is good area and well known.

Jacksonville is a nice place. Of course it has it's bad areas just like every city. But a real good and upgrowing area is the Orange Park area. Which is like in the SW suburb area of Jacksonville.

I have an uncle who recently moved to JAX and they love it. They live on the southern part of town, before you reach downtown. I will mention though that I wasn't entirely impressed with Jacksonville Beach. It attracted a kind of rough, trashy crowd. A far nicer beach, which isn't too far away, is located on Anastasia Island in St. Augustine.
Good luck with the move!

jacksonville is where i am from.. planning to move back asap..the beaches is the most expensive to live.. but if you make a good income i would recommend it..north side is not so good.. the school system is 80% black.. not bad if your that color,,, but as a white child growing up in that it is not so good.. ocean way the north side is 80% white.. south side and orange park is mixed.. west side not so sure about... but as with any big city watch your child closely.. and when you take them to a day care if they really dont want to go talk to them.. my oldest girl i found out when the daycare closed they were cruel to her.. the next one i got a refrence from a teenager who went to that day care and not a adult...listen .. listen to your child...big cities are diff from small towns.. but other than that you will like it

Call the Jacksonsonville Chamber of Commerce for brochures. They will be happy to send you a packet on their city, I'm sure.
