Well, I don't know the hotel itself, but the area is ok. Close to the metro station.
Still: always take a taxi at night if you wanna go somewhere. You wouldn't want to get lost in Caracas...

Add: The lady below me is probably right... Though the area isnt too bad (I had some friends living there), it's not the safest area of Caracas...
The areas she named are all upper class, very expensive, safe and... far far away from the city centre.
I think you're searching for a low budget hotel close to the city centre. I suggest searching a hotel in Altamira, close to the Plaza Francia. It's still very close to the metro and to the city centre, but it's a lot safer. (My parents stayed there when they came to visit me, but I can't remember the name of the hotel. It was on the segunda avenida sur de altamira.)
You can walk around safe there. And there are some bars I liked to visit. (The more expensive clubs are in Las Mercedes)

Hi!
Both gals above me are right.
Now, in the South East (the areas thta Melissa mentioned -El Peñon, Prados del Este, etc) there are no hotels, because it is mainly a residential area.
A great place to stay at would be Altamira as Lene H said, because it is really safe and you have easy access to public transportation including the Caracas Metro (subway), which is not common in the South East.

The good hotels (and probably the most expensive) are:
- Tamanaco Intercontinental (Las Mercedes)
- Raddisson Eurobuilding (Chuao-Las Mercedes)
- Caracas... something (this is used to be the Four Seasons that never opened, and now is up and running under a new name. Is a great place in Altamira)
- Altamira Suites (Altamira)
- JW Marriot (El Rosal)
- Hotel Centro Lido (El Rosal)
- Best Western CCCT (Chuao)


However, for an overseas traveler Caraca's "expensive" tends to be cheap.

The Hilton and the Melia, which are both really good, are located in areas where is not very safe to hang out after sundown... and even when the sun is up. The hotel you mention is near the Meliá. But honestly, I have never heard of it and, like the pals said, it is a pretty unsafe and ugly zone.

I'd recommend Hotel Paseo Las Mercedes, which is located at Las Mercedes. I think it is cheaper than all the other ones, is located near malls, really pretty zones (where you can actually take a walk at night time) and it has public transportation around (not the Metro, but a MetroBus that would take you straight to the Metro Station and that stops right at the Hotel entrance).

Oh! And I wouldn't trust Hotel Reccomendations pages like TripAdvisor and others too much. In Venezuela stuff tends to change FAST and what's good might not me as good in two months time.

Um... I do not know where did you get this information on this hotel. But if you are traveling to Caracas, and wish to stay in a hotel, you shouldn't be staying in that hotel. Specially not in that area. I lived for 18 Years in Caracas, and i know for sure that THIS is not a good area for you to be staying at, if you are a tourist. You might want to research some more and try to find a hotel more to the east side of the city. it's safer. Or try the bigger hotels like the Gran Melia Caracas, the Radisson Plaza, the Hotel Tamanaco InterContinental, the Hilton of course, Hotel Centro Lido (although it's close to the center of the city and a bit unsafe surroundings), Four Seasons Caracas, The JW Marriott it's supposed to be good, Best Western CCCT... But if these are too pricey, just try to find something on the east side... around these locations: Prados Del Este, Alto Prado, Manzanares, Valle Arriba, El Peñon, etc... If you can, you might want to consider visiting: La Isla Margarita, Choroni, Merida, Puerto La Cruz, these are great places in Venezuela... But don't stay in down town, you can visit but not stay there... I hope this helps.
