I recently decided I want to start running. I'm moderately active (go to the gym 3-4 times a week) but usually do the elliptical machine or aerobics. I've ran up to 10 minutes on a treadmill a few times and yesterday jogged about 1.5 miles around a lake. Anyway, there is an 8K parade run scheduled for next month in my city and my friend (who runs 3 miles several times a week) keeps trying to convince me to run it with her. She says that a a month is enough time for me to build up to 8K and that I can always walk if I get tired. Is this dangerous for me? Will I be doing too much too soon?

I lift weights every other day. Now I am deciding to run for 40 minutes at 6mph (4 miles) and the last 3 minutes I run at 10mph. This I do when the days that I am not lifting. Is this a good idea and will it build even more muscle/gain more weight?

Have you tried anything that you like? My husband and I have gone through many products and lots of money but still are dissatisfied. I just workout without my mp3 most of the time, but it would be nice to listen to music while strolling or working out sometimes without having to keep poking stuff in my ears. Help! Thanks!

I've heard you just have to stop running to get rid of them but I really don't want to do that. I've tried icing them but they just come back worse than before. Please help.

I started running about a year ago and can now run up to 10 miles at a time. However, I'm pretty slow. I run 6 miles in about 55 minutes. As a long time runner, does your comfortable run speed (a pace where you can still carry on a conversation) ever increase w/ time or do you have to do speed training? I'm not looking to win a race, just wondering if consistent running at the speed I do now will naturally progress into a faster long distance run.

I've been running for awhile and I've been hitting a plateau for a few weeks.
No matter how much I practice, I won't get faster (surprisingly, I sometimes even get slower!) and I'm stuck!

Have you ever gone through a plateau in any sport? Like what did you do to get past it? Please respond!

I am a cross country runner, run long distance in track. I like to do these sports, but always am lazy about practice, getting up and running, and having a bad attitude about practice. I have tried so hard to have a good attitude and try hard, but I just keep going back to the way I was...anyone else have this problem, and if so how did u come over it?

I am in my early 20s, and I have been running for 3 years - just for fun. I tend to run between 2 and 4 moderately fast miles about 3 or 4 times a week (sometimes more or less), but every once in a while I like to time my mile run. How fast should my mile be? How fast would an average early 20-year-old male run a mile? Thanks.

I have been training for a 5k for about a month now and the other day I went out to run and my ankle was in so much pain when i started. I have no injuries to my ankle and did not twist it recently. In addition, I am on a training schedule to build up my bones and joints properly and not increasing more than 10% a week. Any suggestions on what is causing this and how to make it better. I just went out and bought a elastic ankle wrap (it actually is like a sock with a whole in the ball of my foot and covers my ankle). I also didnt run for a few days and then I ran again and the pain came back...I know I should get it checked out by a doctor, I just dont have any insurance at the moment and when it kicks in I will go...so any suggestions until then...I really dont want to not run until I go to the doctors...(which is in a month when I get my insurance) Thanks for any help..

Now my hip is really bugging me. It feels like it's just not lined up right. I am training for a 10k and it has me running 6 days a week. Does anyone know what's going on with my hip? I don't want to skip any days. I have 10 mile run scheduled for today and I'm off tomorrow. Should I got to a Chiropractor Monday or Tuesday ? Or will it go away after my rest day tomorrow? Anyone have this problem before?

I'm a distance runner, and every shoe I try is either too heavey, bulky, or gives me blisters. Does anyone have an awesome shoe that is opposite of my findings? I've tried Asics, but I found the ones I bought were just bulky and uncomfortable. I've also tried Nike Shocks, but they are so heavy I feel like I have weights on. The only shoe I've loved are Pumas but they are giving me blisters. Please Help!
